Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate English Language and Literature Teacher to instruct students in grades 1 through 5. The ideal candidate will employ age-appropriate teaching strategies to foster foundational literacy skills, including reading, writing, grammar, spelling, and speaking. This role involves planning and delivering engaging lessons aligned with recognized curricula, assessing student progress, and creating a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages language development and active participation.
Key Responsibilities
The teacher will design and implement well-structured lesson plans that focus on core language skills, utilizing phonics-based methods and storytelling to build early literacy. Daily and weekly lesson plans must align with ALIS curriculum standards, with a preference for Oxford or Cambridge frameworks. Classroom activities should be interactive and varied, including creative writing exercises, role-playing, book reading sessions, and language games to maintain student engagement.
Assessment is a critical component of this role. The teacher will regularly evaluate student progress through tests, written assignments, reading fluency checks, and oral presentations. Providing timely and constructive feedback is essential, along with maintaining accurate academic records to track development.
Encouraging language use beyond the classroom is also important. The teacher will motivate students to participate in extracurricular language activities such as spelling bees, debates, speech contests, and storytime events. Managing classroom behavior positively and fostering a warm, inclusive atmosphere that supports all learners is expected.
Collaboration with co-teachers and school coordinators is necessary to develop effective teaching materials and coordinate co-curricular activities. The teacher will also engage in professional development opportunities and contribute to school-wide programs aimed at enhancing teaching quality and student outcomes.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate fluency in spoken and written English, with excellent grammar and pronunciation skills. A strong understanding of phonics and early childhood reading programs is essential to support foundational literacy development. Experience teaching young learners in grades 1 to 5 is required, with proven ability to create engaging and effective lesson plans.
