Project Summary: 

The United States- Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies-Energy (USPCAS-E), University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar is an initiative funded by USAID/Pakistan with the purpose to find innovative and practical solutions for Pakistan's energy challenges. Through this initiative, UET Peshawar and National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) have partnered with Arizona State University (ASU) to create two centers for advanced studies and research in energy. Under the umbrella of Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, USPCAS-E, UET Peshawar, and NUST are expected to eventually become Pakistan's premier centers for sustainable energy research. These centers also aim to set new standards for supporting the success of women and disadvantaged youth in the engineering profession.

Position Summary:

MSI is recruiting two Senior Field Researchers (one male and one female) as short-term consultants for an anticipated assignment to monitor implementation of activities under the Center for Advanced Studies-Energy (USPCAS-E) project, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar. The overall objective of CAS-UET project is to substantially improve higher education’s ability to find innovative solutions to Pakistan’s greatest development challenges through applied research, improved student preparation to meet workforce demands for well-qualified science and engineering graduates, and leadership in advocating for policy reforms

The field researchers will work closely with the assignment manager and data analyst to ensure that the deliverables are timely, accurate, and complete. They will coordinate with CAS UET, grantees, scholarship recipients, internees and beneficiaries as appropriate, and conduct field monitoring throughout the assignment. The duration of the assignment is from January 2019 through October 2019.

Responsibilities:

·         Review background documents for the monitoring;

·         Participate in team planning workshop and staff training to understand the monitoring purpose, scope, methodology, and data collection instruments;

·         Coordinate with relevant staff to execute the field data collection plan;

·         Travel to the project locations and carry out monitoring using the checklists, interview guides and other monitoring tools as per the data collection plan; 

·         Lead key informant interviews and completing observation checklists;

·         Record comprehensive and high-quality notes during interviews and transcribe and translate notes in English in accordance with the required format;

·         Submit the completed checklists, data collection instruments and tagged photos with comments both in soft and hard form;

·         Enter the collected data into a web-based data repository; and

·         Conduct document review as needed;

·         Undertake other tasks as assigned by the assignment manager and/or team lead for the successful completion of the assignment.

Qualifications:

·         Master’s degree in a related field in social sciences, education, international development or a related field

·         A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the collection of qualitative and quantitative data, preferably in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)

·         Excellent MS Excel skills required;

·         Willingness and ability to travel within KP including the newly merged districts;

·         Excellent analytical and personal communication skills; and

·         Fluent in written and spoken English.

·         Proficiency in speaking and understanding local language (Pushto), is preferred.
