§ To provide early labour care under the supervision of medical staff
§ To be able assess progress of labour, i.e. strength and frequency of contractions
§ To take and record vital signs during early labour, active labour and postpartum period, as per MSF protocol.
§ To perform regular auscultation of the fetal heart during labour and delivery as per MSF protocol
§ To administer and check medications as charted by doctor
§ To assist in the management of Obstetric emergencies
§ To receive babies at caesarean section and to provide basic resuscitation
Patient Care - Postnatal period
§ To monitor and record blood loss, vital signs, uterus and general wellbeing in the immediate postpartum period.
§ To perform postnatal checks on a daily basis and prior to discharge
§ To recognize and respond to problems immediately postpartum
Care and monitoring of new-born baby
§ To maintain temperature and check respirations as required
§ To carry out new-born check within first 24 hrs of birth including birth weight
§ To perform regular observation of baby to detect any abnormal conditions i.e., infection, sepsis, hypoglycemia, and hyperthermia.
§ To administer and document vitamin K and routine vaccinations within first 24 hours
§ To observe and document vital signs, colour, and urine output on new-born observation chart
Application of hygiene and waste management as per MSF protocol
§ To understand, promote, implement and follow the MSF protocol on hand hygiene and waste management
