MENZIES-RAS Pvt Ltd is seeking a dedicated Cargo Operations Intern to assist in the comprehensive handling and documentation of import and export cargo processes. This role focuses on ensuring that outbound and inbound cargo complies with all operational and safety regulations, including accurate weight and dimension measurements, scanning, proper storage, and adherence to IATA standards. The intern will actively participate in cargo inspection, build-up, and preparation for loading while maintaining accurate documentation and manifest preparation. This position is ideal for a proactive individual eager to gain hands-on experience in cargo logistics and operations within an airline or freight handling environment.
The Cargo Operations Intern will also engage in coordinating cargo movement and safeguarding shipments against damage, performing detailed inspections of Unit Load Devices before cargo build-up and upon arrival, and maintaining updated communication on flight schedules. Although this role does not involve team management, the intern must drive processes autonomously, manage communications effectively, and handle IT tools related to cargo operations, ensuring excellent workflow within the department.
Responsibilities
- Measure and record the weight and dimensions of all outbound cargo precisely as per established procedures.
- Ensure 100% scanning of outbound cargo to maintain security and compliance.
- Store cargo appropriately following designated locations and IATA warehouse regulations.
- Conduct detailed inspections of Unit Load Devices before cargo build-up to ensure safety and integrity.
- Supervise accepted and custom-cleared cargo preparing it for loading according to airline schedules.
- Prepare and verify manifests for export cargo, obtaining necessary signatures from freight officers.
- Accurately prepare all required documents for outbound cargo and concertina shipments.
- Transport cargo using the appropriate methods based on shipment nature and requirements.
- Safeguard all outgoing and incoming cargo to prevent damage from environmental and handling factors.
- Inspect imported Unit Load Devices at arrival points checking against the incoming manifest and clear apron areas promptly by transferring cargo to storage.
- Personally deliver important documents such as MAWB, HAWB, and manifests to flight staff including flight pursers or pilots-in-command.
- Check and identify import cargo during breakdown and prepare accurate cargo summaries.
- Report damaged cargo and discrepancies immediately to superiors, airline representatives, and via official communication channels.
- Assign Import General Manifest numbers and notify consignees, prepare delivery orders, and manage timely delivery of prior release cargo.
- Stay informed on Estimated Time of Arrival and Departure for scheduled flights to support cargo coordination.
- Perform monthly inspections of the entire cargo department ensuring adherence to SOPs and regulatory compliance.
- Execute IT-related tasks including use of RCS, MAN, Manifestation systems, and sending SITA telex communications.
- Handle customer correspondence including complaints, queries, and discrepancies related to cargo operations responsibly and efficiently.
