General Position Summary

The driver will provide safe, transport services for the MC program and support staff in the described AOR (Area of Responsibility). The driver will adhere to all traffic and MC safety rules and follow the transport guidelines required by the MC transport department.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for driving and maintenance of the van. In addition to that, he is also responsible for facilitating the patients during camp
  • Ensure daily maintenance and cleaning of the mobile van for a safe commute. Prepare the van for daily activities.
  • Responsible for safe driving and deciding a safe commute to the decided site.
  • Follow safe traffic rule and regulations
  • Keeps his driving license, van registration, and route permit documents at all times.
  • On reaching the site, the driver parks the van at a safe distance ensuring that space should be available for the setup of camp.
  • Ensure personal and staff safety through proper use of Personal protective equipment.
  • Responsible to wear dosimeter at all time during chest camp as per PNRA recommendations, and after the camp will keep it on a safe place and away from the X-ray room.
  • With the help of the field team, set up a shed and chairs near the mobile van for the patients waiting outside the van.
  • Guides the patients to enter one at a time in order of the patient arrival to the waiting area. Maintain order among the patients waiting.
  • Should remain outside the van at all times and ensure the safety of the van and patients from any harm.
  • Ensure that no unauthorized personnel enter the van without permission.
  • Submit written incident report form in case of any unusual event before the end of business day. 
  • Maintain a daily fuel log for the consumption of fuel with relation.
  • Check the vehicle conditions after each trip/routinely – report needs and problems to the supervisor.
  • Adhere to all safety and communication protocols as advised by Mercy Corps and supervisor.
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of all vehicle equipment, tools, first aid kits, spares, etc
  • Report all maintenance needs of the vehicle to transport management regularly
  • Adherence to all MC policies and procedures as outlined in MC policies and procedure manuals
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission in the country of operation.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Matric with Valid driving license (HTV) and 05 years experience driving 4x4 vehicles.
  • Must respect and adhere to all safety and traffic rules.
  • A basic understanding of English and fluency in all local languages is required.
  • Knowledge of routes, duty stations, project areas, the NGO and the diplomatic community is required.
  • Working technical knowledge of vehicle and basic maintenance.
