About the role:

The nutrition Officer will play a vital role in improving the nutritional well-being of individuals and communities. By assessing needs, developing programs, providing education, and advocating for better nutrition policies. He/she will contribute to the prevention of malnutrition, chronic diseases, and overall improved health outcomes.

About the Project:

The project aims to provide integrated services in health, nutrition, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and livelihood to the flood-affected communities of Umerkot and Khairpur Sindh-Pakistan.

The project idea is designed within the framework of localization to restore mentioned services and strengthen local capacities, taking a holistic approach and considering the protracted nature of the crisis situation. The staff will be based in their respective districts to implement the project activities.

Your impactful goals will include

  • Conduct assessments to evaluate the nutritional status of individuals or communities through interviews, surveys, and physical examinations.
  • Developing and delivering nutrition education programs and counseling sessions to individuals or groups, aiming to promote healthy eating habits and prevent nutrition- related diseases.
  • Collaborating with food service providers, such as schools, hospitals, or community centers, to develop nutritious menus that meet the specific dietary requirements of the target population.
  • Regularly evaluating and modifying menus based on nutritional guidelines and feedback.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of policies and guidelines related to nutrition, food safety, and public health. This may involve working with government agencies, NGOs, or international organizations.
  • Conducting research studies on nutrition-related topics, collecting and analyzing data, and interpreting the findings to provide evidence-based recommendations for nutritional interventions and policies.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of nutrition programs and interventions, ensuring they meet the desired outcomes and making adjustments as necessary.
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals, community leaders, educators, and other stakeholders to promote nutrition-related initiatives, raise awareness, and foster partnerships.
  • Maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, and documenting activities, outcomes, and recommendations related to nutrition programs and interventions.
  • Keeping up-to-date with the latest research, trends, and developments in the field of nutrition through continuous learning, attending conferences, and workshops, and participating in professional associations.
  • Engaging in advocacy efforts to raise awareness about nutrition-related issues, promoting policies and initiatives that improve access to nutritious food, and advocating for the importance of proper nutrition in overall health and well-being.

What we are looking for:

Education & Knowledge:

Masters/BS Degree in Nutrition, dietetics, food sciences, or a closely relevant field.

Work Experience

3 to 4 years of demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating nutrition programs.

Functional Competencies/Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of nutrition, dietary guidelines, and food science is essential.
  • Data analysis and research skills.
  • Communicating & Counseling skills.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Cultural Sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Experience in Monitoring and Accountability.
  • Collaborative and Teamwork abilities.
