About the role

The Programme Manager (Climate Action) is responsible for ensuring that program is aligned with organizational goals and objectives, as well as with national and international climate targets. In addition, the Programme Manager (Climate Action) is responsible for managing budgets, resources, and timelines for programs, as well as monitoring and evaluating program outcomes.

The Programme Manager (Climate Action) is also responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, funders, and partners. He/She will communicate programme progress and outcomes to stakeholders, and develop strategies to increase program visibility and impact.

Overall, the Programme Manager (Climate Action) responsibility is to lead and manage programme that contribute to addressing the global climate crisis, with a focus on achieving measurable and impactful outcomes.

Your impactful goals will include

  • Developing and implementing climate change programme: As a Programme Manager, He/She will be responsible for developing and implementing programme aimed at mitigating the impact of climate change. This may include initiatives such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting renewable energy, and enhancing energy efficiency.
  • Coordinating with stakeholders: He/She will need to work with a variety of stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, private sector entities, and community groups, to develop and implement climate action programme. This will require excellent communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
  • Managing budgets and resources: He/She will be responsible for managing the budget and resources for climate action programme. This will involve identifying funding sources, creating and managing budgets, and ensuring that resources are used effectively and efficiently.
  • Monitoring and evaluating programme outcomes: He/She will need to regularly monitor and evaluate the outcomes of climate action programme to ensure that they are achieving their goals. This will involve collecting data, analyzing results, and making adjustments as needed to improve programme effectiveness.
  • Advocating for climate action: As a Programme Manager, He/She may also be called upon to advocate for climate action policies and initiatives at the local, national, or international level. This may involve engaging with policymakers, media outlets, and other stakeholders to raise awareness and build support for climate action programme.
  • Reporting on programme progress: He/She will need to report regularly on the progress of your climate action programme to internal and external stakeholders. This may involve creating and presenting reports, producing case studies and success stories, and communicating programme outcomes through various channels, such as social media, newsletters, and website.

Relationship with Donor: Building and maintaining positive relationship with donor through regular communication and update on the programme’s progress.

Financial Management: Responsible for overseeing the financial management, planning, budgeting & reporting of the programme.

Participation: Participating in relevant forums, conferences, and events to share knowledge and best practices with peers and potential partners.

New opportunities: Identifying new opportunities for collaboration and partnership through networking activities. Identifying Funding opportunities and fundraising strategies.

Participation in clusters: Participating in relevant clusters, to share knowledge and best practices with peers and potential partners.

Registration with Networks: Helping programme to register for relevant networks, ensuring that all necessary documentation and information are submitted.

Charity Commission & EAD Registration: Work closely with the Charity Commission and EAD registration team and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that all the necessary documentation and information is provided in a timely manner.

Collaboration with Business Development & Proposal Development: Work closely with the business development team to understand and identify potential opportunities and providing technical input in the proposal development.

Thematic Goals: Ensure that Strategic Planning of PMS is aligned with the Thematic goals.

What we are looking for:

Education & Knowledge

  • Masters degree in a relevant Field such as Environmental Science, Climate Science, Environmental Management, Climate Change or Sustainable Development.
  • Certification Programmes such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) or CEM (Certified Energy Manager) can be beneficial

Work Experience

  • 5 to 6 years of experience in programme management and implementation.
  • Experience in overseeing the implementation of the Climate Action Projects.

Functional Competencies/Skills

Climate Change Knowledge:

  • An in-depth understanding of climate change science, policy, and mitigation and adaptation strategies is crucial for a Programme Manager for Climate Action.
  • This includes understanding the causes and consequences of climate change, the social, economic, and environmental impacts, and relevant policy frameworks and regulations.

Strategic Thinking:

  • A Programme Manager for Climate Action needs to be able to think critically and strategically to develop effective solutions and implement plans to address climate change.
  • This includes the ability to assess risks and opportunities, make informed decisions, and adjust strategies as needed.

Project Management:

  • A Programme Manager for Climate Action is responsible for overseeing the implementation of climate action projects.
  • This requires strong programme management skills, including the ability to manage budgets, timelines, and teams, and to monitor and evaluate project outcomes.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Climate action requires collaboration across a range of stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and businesses.
  • A Programme Manager for Climate Action needs to be able to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, communicate effectively with diverse audiences, and work effectively in teams.
