The Redis Platform Engineer will own our on-premises Redis ecosystem end-to-end, bridging infrastructure engineering with data platform reliability. This role is responsible for designing, deploying, and managing our self-managed Redis infrastructure while ensuring optimal performance, security, and data integrity for business-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

Redis Platform Engineering & Infrastructure Management (30%)

Design and deploy Redis clusters on physical servers and on-premises virtualization platforms
Implement Redis clustering strategies (sharding, failover, high availability) for master-replica architectures
Optimize Redis for diverse use cases: low-latency caching, session storage, and real-time data processing
Configure and optimize persistent storage for Redis persistence (RDB, AOF)
Design and maintain low-latency network topology in coordination with network teams
Conduct capacity planning for CPU, memory, and storage based on growth projections

Cluster Operations & Administration (30%)

Implement and maintain high-availability configurations across multiple server racks or data centers
Manage Redis Sentinel for automatic failover and Redis Cluster for horizontal scaling
Perform rolling upgrades, patches, and maintenance without service interruption
Develop and execute disaster recovery procedures including cross-data center replication
Automate deployment, scaling, and management using infrastructure-as-code principles
Implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and observability using Prometheus, Grafana, and RedisInsight
Implement and maintain backup strategies to on-premises storage or hybrid cloud

Data Operations & Analytics (30%)

Perform direct data manipulation including emergency fixes, bulk updates, and data migrations
Develop and optimize Lua scripts for complex atomic operations in production environments
Generate custom reports on data health, memory usage, and performance trends
Troubleshoot Redis connectivity, replication issues, and cluster routing (MOVED/ASK errors)
Optimize data structures and memory allocation for hardware constraints
Conduct root cause analysis for data corruption, consistency issues, and performance degradation

Security & Compliance (10%)

Implement security hardening for Redis configurations and operating systems
Ensure compliance with data governance, retention policies, and audit requirements
Maintain comprehensive audit trails for all administrative and data operations
Coordinate with security teams for vulnerability assessments and penetration testing

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills - On-Premises Focus

2+ years of Redis administration in large-scale on-premises production environments
Expertise in Linux system administration (RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu Server)
Networking knowledge - VLANs, routing, load balancers (HAProxy, F5)
Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools (Ansible, Terraform, Puppet)
Proficiency with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, Nagios)
Scripting automation expertise (Bash, Python, or similar)

Redis-Specific Expertise

Deep knowledge of Redis persistence mechanisms and performance tuning
Extensive experience with Redis Cluster and Redis Sentinel in self-managed environments
Strong Lua scripting skills for complex data operations
Understanding of Redis data types, security controls (ACLs, encryption, authentication)
Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
Performance benchmarking and capacity planning expertise
