The ENT Specialist at Poverty Eradication Initiative (PEI) plays a crucial role in diagnosing and treating disorders related to the ear, nose, and throat. This position requires expertise in otolaryngologic surgery, audiology testing, and endoscopic procedures to provide comprehensive care to patients across all age groups, including pediatric cases. The specialist will utilize advanced surgical techniques and microsurgery equipment to perform precise interventions and use rigid and flexible endoscopy for enhanced visualization and diagnosis. The role demands a commitment to high-quality patient care and adherence to the standards set forth by the medical regulatory authorities. In addition to clinical duties, the ENT Specialist will manage a dedicated team of 20 healthcare professionals. This includes overseeing medical staff, coordinating patient care activities, and ensuring the team's continuous professional development. The specialist is expected to collaborate with multidisciplinary departments to improve patient outcomes and contribute to the organization's mission of poverty eradication through accessible and effective healthcare services. Candidates should have at least three years of relevant experience and meet the regulatory certification requirements stipulated by the Public Service Commission and PMDC.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of ear, nose, and throat conditions using medical and surgical methods.
- Perform otolaryngologic surgeries with proficiency in microsurgery equipment handling and endoscopic techniques.
- Conduct audiology testing to assess hearing function and address auditory disorders effectively.
- Utilize rigid and flexible endoscopic procedures to visualize and treat ENT pathologies with precision.
- Manage pediatric otolaryngology cases by applying specialized knowledge and care tailored to children’s needs.
- Lead and supervise a multidisciplinary team of 20 healthcare professionals, ensuring high standards of clinical practice.
- Develop and implement treatment plans and protocols to optimize patient outcomes and enhance service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with medical regulations and maintain up-to-date registration with PMDC and other relevant bodies.
- Collaborate with other departments to facilitate integrated patient care and contribute to community health initiatives.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation, including surgical reports and patient progress notes.
- Participate in continuous professional development activities and encourage similar growth within the team.
- Advise on procurement and maintenance of specialized ENT surgical and diagnostic equipment.
- Educate patients and their families on ENT conditions, treatment options, and post-operative care requirements.
- Monitor and improve healthcare quality indicators related to ENT services within the organization.
- Support the organization’s objective of poverty alleviation by providing accessible and affordable ENT healthcare.

Traditional gender roles in Pakistan especially in NWFP, which remains indulged in tribal culture, define the woman’s place as in the home and not in the workplace, and define the man as the breadwinner. Consequently, the society invests far less in women than men. Women in NWFP suffer more from poverty of opportunities throughout their lives as compared to other provinces. Economic vulnerability is a key factor in the rise of poverty in Pakistan; vulnerability also arises from social powerlessness, political instability, and ill-functioning institutions. Corruption and political instabilities such as various separatist movements in Baluchistan and Waziristan resulted in reduction of business confidence, deterioration of economic growth, reduced public expenditure, poor delivery of public services, and undermining of the rule of law. The root causes of current unrest in whole country especially FATA and FRS are linked with the absence of the opportunities for youth in all sections of life in general and particular in livelihoods. Active participation of the youth in decision making and development of the area is neglected and never given a chance to decide their fate. This made youth of the area frustrated and restless and compelled them to take part in the unhealthy activities. Poverty and the lack of modern curriculum have proved destabilizing factors for Pakistani society as these causes our youth to be exploited by religious organizations banned by the government to run schools and produce militant literature. Eradication of poverty cannot be brought about by charity, but needs first and foremost empowering the poor, focusing on women, and tapping their tremendous potential.
