Poverty Eradication Initiative (PEI) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pathologist with a minimum of three years of experience to join our medical team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in histopathology, cytopathology, molecular diagnostics, and immunohistochemistry techniques. This role requires thorough knowledge of specimen collection and processing, clinical correlation, as well as effective management of diagnostic workflows. The Pathologist will lead a team of ten professionals, ensuring the highest standards of specimen handling, labeling, and clinical laboratory information system (LIS) management. This position demands close collaboration with clinical staff to deliver accurate and timely diagnostic results that contribute to improved patient care and the overall objectives of the Poverty Eradication Initiative.
The successful candidate must hold a valid PMDC registration number, preferably supported by a PMDC certificate verifiable via the official website. Candidates with FCPS qualifications will be given preference. In the absence of FCPS-qualified applicants, selection will adhere to criteria established by the Public Service Commission. Newly qualified FCPS recipients should provide a congratulatory letter from CPSP confirming their certification. This role involves applying advanced pathology techniques in a fast-paced clinical environment, overseeing quality control, and driving improvements in diagnostic services. The Pathologist will also be responsible for mentoring and guiding team members to maintain operational excellence and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform accurate examination and interpretation of tissue specimens using histopathology and cytopathology techniques.
- Utilize molecular diagnostics and immunohistochemistry methods to provide comprehensive diagnostic analyses.
- Oversee specimen collection, processing, handling, and labeling to maintain specimen integrity and prevent contamination.
- Manage diagnostic workflows efficiently to ensure timely delivery of laboratory results.
- Supervise, mentor, and lead a team of ten laboratory professionals to maintain high standards of diagnostic service.
- Coordinate effectively with clinical staff to correlate laboratory findings with patient histories and clinical presentations.
- Maintain and update the Clinical Laboratory Information System (LIS) to ensure accuracy and completeness of diagnostic data.
- Conduct quality control and assurance procedures to comply with regulatory and institutional guidelines.
- Keep abreast of advancements in pathology and integrate new diagnostic techniques and technologies as appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with PMDC registration standards and maintain proper documentation and certification records.
- Contribute to continuous process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of diagnostic testing.
- Prepare detailed diagnostic reports and communicate findings clearly to medical professionals.
- Participate in clinical case discussions and provide expert consultation to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and ethical standards within the pathology laboratory.

Traditional gender roles in Pakistan especially in NWFP, which remains indulged in tribal culture, define the woman’s place as in the home and not in the workplace, and define the man as the breadwinner. Consequently, the society invests far less in women than men. Women in NWFP suffer more from poverty of opportunities throughout their lives as compared to other provinces. Economic vulnerability is a key factor in the rise of poverty in Pakistan; vulnerability also arises from social powerlessness, political instability, and ill-functioning institutions. Corruption and political instabilities such as various separatist movements in Baluchistan and Waziristan resulted in reduction of business confidence, deterioration of economic growth, reduced public expenditure, poor delivery of public services, and undermining of the rule of law. The root causes of current unrest in whole country especially FATA and FRS are linked with the absence of the opportunities for youth in all sections of life in general and particular in livelihoods. Active participation of the youth in decision making and development of the area is neglected and never given a chance to decide their fate. This made youth of the area frustrated and restless and compelled them to take part in the unhealthy activities. Poverty and the lack of modern curriculum have proved destabilizing factors for Pakistani society as these causes our youth to be exploited by religious organizations banned by the government to run schools and produce militant literature. Eradication of poverty cannot be brought about by charity, but needs first and foremost empowering the poor, focusing on women, and tapping their tremendous potential.
