The Manager of Operations oversees management of all areas of manufacturing to produce products and direct activities so that approved products are manufactured on schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives. This position will manage a small team of dedicated employees and all vendor relationships related to the manufacturing process and will be responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within the manufacturing team. The ideal candidate is a strong leader and an excellent communicator, with a strong ability to drive projects to completion in tight deadlines.

Primary responsibilities

  • Assists our senior team in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs, and objectives.
  • Develops the manufacturing plan and establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
  • Achieves optimum employee levels, internally or with a contract manufacturer, with least amount of overhead and raw material costs to meet annual budgetary plan.
  • Formulates and recommends manufacturing policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
  • Directs and monitors team members and contract manufacturer(s) to accomplish the goals of the manufacturing plan, consistent with established manufacturing, quality, and safety procedures.
  • Identifies, recommends and implements changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data. Directs the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of production standards.
  • Directs and coordinates various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.).
  • Initiates and coordinates major projects (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.).
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering or business administration, or a 4-year technical degree in a related discipline
  • A minimum of 10 years of manufacturing experience, with 5 years of experience managing a significant segment of a large manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer
  • Experience with contract manufacturing environments and working relationships, with a keen understanding of standard technical, commercial, and legal frameworks
  • Experience introducing new product lines and phasing out old product lines
  • Product lifecycle management for solutions with electro-mechanical components, printed circuit boards, and extensive software
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and safety standards for electrical and electronics equipment, with the ability to quickly learn utility standards
  • Strong knowledge of global and regional logistics operations and industry
  • Strong proficiency in determining logistics requirements to enable the company’s business goals and objectives with the ability to devise and implement a strategy to achieve targets.

  • Demonstrated successful relationship-building skills with highest-level audiences at strategic and senior levels within business partnerships
