Responsibilities:

1. Design and develop mechanical components and systems for new products, from concept through production.
2. Create and modify 3D CAD models and drawings using software such as SolidWorks, or Pro/E.
3. Conduct engineering calculations to ensure that designs meet performance requirements and are cost-effective to produce.
4. Perform tolerance analysis and finite element analysis (FEA), and CFD to validate designs.
5. Develop prototypes for products using multiple prototyping techniques.
6. Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate mechanical and electrical components into a single system.
7. Work with fabrication and manufacturing teams to ensure that designs are manufacturable, and provide input to improve production efficiency.
8. Develop and execute test plans to validate mechanical designs and ensure they meet performance requirements.
9. Prepare and present design reviews to project teams and management.
10. Work with suppliers to select materials and components that meet design requirements and cost targets.
11. Maintain accurate documentation of design specifications, test results, and other relevant information.
12. Ensure that all designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
13. Identify potential design and manufacturing risks and develop mitigation strategies to avoid them.
14. Oversee project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within cost targets.
15. Liaise with quality assurance, research and development, sales, and marketing teams to incorporate their inputs into the design and manufacturing processes.
16. Provide technical support to the sales and marketing teams, helping them understand the features and benefits of new designs.
17. Incorporate sustainable design principles into product designs, considering the entire lifecycle of the product from raw materials to end-of-life disposal or recycling.
18. Training Mentor and train junior engineers and technicians, sharing your expertise and promoting best practices within the team.
19. Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and materials in the mechanical engineering field to continuously innovate and improve the product designs.
20. Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, facilitating negotiations for contracts and agreements.
21. Product Lifecycle Management Manage the entire lifecycle of the product from conception, through design and manufacture.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
2. Minimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical design.
3. Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, or Pro/E.
4. Experience with FEA, CFD and tolerance analysis.
5. Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
6. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
7. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
9. Understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) principles.
10. Experience with product development processes, including design reviews, prototyping, and testing.

Working Conditions:

Mechanical Design Engineers work in an office environment, spending the majority of their time at a computer workstation. They may occasionally need to travel to manufacturing facilities or vendor locations to oversee product development or resolve issues related to design and manufacturing. They typically work full-time, with occasional overtime required to meet project deadlines.
