ROLE IN THE ORGANIZATION

The Field Infrastructure Engineer will be based at SIF field office Sanghar/Tharparkar, and will be responsible for planning, technical feasibility, designing, implementation and reporting of SIF Infrastructure Engineer and community infrastructure interventions in Sindh under the direct supervision of field coordinator and with technical support and coordination. He will technically ensure adherence to the standards of construction while implementing and monitoring physical infrastructure related activities in timely manner.

In addition, s/he may be called upon to carry out surveys, participatory needs assessments or any other activity that may be deemed necessary.

MISSIONS AND ACTIVITIES

Objective 1: Assessment/Training

Activities:

  1. Conduct technical feasibilities for Infrastructure  and community infrastructure schemes.
  2. Conduct field water quality tests for all water supply schemes (gravity, hand pumps, dug wells etc.)
  3. Train masons/artisans on schemes design and engineering techniques.

 Objective 2: Technical Supervision

Activities:

1.       Develop BOQs and design for culturally appropriate, environmentally sound, disasterresilient and sustainable Infrastructure facilities and rehabilitation work like, hand pumps, community and Govt CPI schemesin target areas.

  1. Supervise all construction works related to water supply and sanitation including sanitation platforms, masonry foundations, laying of pipes.
  2. Supervise installation and start-up of operations of all water supply, latrine construction activities
  3. Design  Infrastructure and community physical infrastructure as per requirement and engineering standards.
  4. Prepare technical designs and BOQs and ensure that all the construction work is implemented as per approved designs and engineering standards and share with relevant government departments if necessary
  5. Ensure storage and delivery of related materials, equipment, tools and consumables on worksite and maintenance of proper records.
  6. Plan and supervise all other environmental sanitation activities including waste drainage Lobbying / Advocacy and capacity building of target area beneficiaries.
  7. Conduct monthly evaluation of program activities to determine the success of interventions, write routine progress reports and recommend changes in program activities to the Project officer.
  8.  Support logistic department in procurement of construction material and ensure safe storage in the community
  9. Handover all completed schemes to beneficiaries and line departments.
  10. Perform other duties as required related to construction.               

Objective 2: Coordination

Activities:

1.       Maintain close liaison with mobilization officersand CBOs

2.       Establish strong liaison with the all relevant departments and get the technical guidance from field coordinator, day to day lessons and best practices replication in implementing

3.       Coordinate with MEAL department.                                                                                         

Objective 3: Documentation

Activities:

1.       Ensure proper documentation related to Infrastructure  and community infrastructure construction.

2.       Design appropriate CPI schemes and Preparing BOQs for all construction work.

3.       Preparation of workplans for all construction works

4.       Prepare and submission of technical feasibility reports.

5.       Prepare and submission of final report of all construction works

 Objective 3: Reporting

Activities:

1.       Report all the activities to project officer in a timely manner.

2.       Collect and analyze the reports and provide necessary feedback to the concerned

3.       Prepare field visit report and other ad hoc reports

4.       Compile and submission of bi-weekly or monthly reports for all construction works

5.       Any other assignment given by the supervisor according to the project need

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIOR

  1. BSc /B-Techin Civil Engineering and Technology
  2. Three to four years of experience in the Infrastructure Engineering sector in public or private organizations; preferably in international organizations.
  3. Proficient in AutoCAD or other Civil Engineering software
  4. Knowledge and experience in providing presentations and written reports
  5. Good inter-person and communication, liaison and presentation skills
  6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  7. Be culturally sensitive and possess good interpersonal skills
  8. Be a self-starter and be able to work with minimal supervision
  9. Be able to deal with people at all levels with tact and diplomacy
  10. Good Team player and motivated to work in remote and uncertain environment respecting standard operating procedures as devised and instructed.
