The World Food Programme (WFP) is inviting applications for the position of Security Assistant based in Quetta, Pakistan, on a 12-month service contract. This role, graded SC5, is open exclusively to Pakistani nationals and supports security operations under the guidance of the Senior Security Associate. The Security Assistant will be responsible for a range of duties including monitoring security equipment, conducting risk assessments, and coordinating with local authorities to ensure the safety of WFP personnel and assets. Key Responsibilities
Assist in reviewing security threats and risks by compiling accurate reports on trends and situations that may affect WFP operations, supporting informed decision-making. Review security-related information such as incidents and daily security activities, using corporate or local information management tools to provide basic analyses and reports. Coordinate with local administration, security and law enforcement authorities, communities, UN/NGO security staff, and other stakeholders to facilitate safe program delivery and risk mitigation.
Support the planning, coordination, and execution of field missions, including staff tracking and conducting regular security assessments to ensure safe and effective operations. Prepare detailed security assessment reports following field missions, offering risk mitigation recommendations to aid in security situation analysis. Assist in advising the Head Provincial Office and Country Director on security risk management and safety issues in line with the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS).
Manage and maintain security equipment, identifying new requirements to enhance technological capacity aligned with operational needs. Monitor access control procedures to ensure strict compliance by all staff and visitors, maintaining a secure environment. Contribute to the development and updating of emergency and contingency plans, including physical preparations and procedural documentation.
Assist in identifying security training needs to support staff development and training implementation. Attend and summarize security cell and Area Security Management Team (ASMT) meetings, advising senior management on security decisions. Maintain updated staff lists, eligible dependents, security Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and an effective warden system.
Conduct regular inspections of WFP warehouses to ensure security compliance, including fire safety checks as per Security Risk Management (SRM) guidelines. Update the security unit’s annual work plan and security plan, and provide effective security briefings for new staff and field missions. Maintain accurate records of security documents and regularly update the security shared folder. Submit mandatory reports such as flash reports, weekly reports, STARS reports, daily staff headcounts, and mission tracking. Perform any other tasks within the scope of security expertise as required.
Required Qualifications
Completion of secondary school education with a post-secondary certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies, Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, Psychology, International Relations, Commercial Law, or a related field focusing on security management is required. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in security operations, security risk management, or related areas is essential. Candidates must possess specialized knowledge of practical security methods, techniques, procedures, and systems, typically gained through technical training and work experience.
A broad understanding of security logistics, administration, risk assessment, and coordination with local authorities and law enforcement is necessary. Experience and training in fire response, intervention, and evacuation procedures are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and strong analytical skills are also essential.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
A Bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, Psychology, International Relations, Commercial Law, or a related field with a focus on security management is advantageous. A Bachelor’s degree from a police academy or military college is highly desirable. Candidates with a security background in military or police service will be preferred.
