Pavago is looking for a Senior Accountant to oversee its accounting functions, ensuring precise financial reporting and compliance with GAAP and IFRS standards. This full-time remote position offers flexible hours aligned with U.S. client schedules. The role involves managing end-to-end accounting processes, supervising junior staff, and partnering with management to improve financial operations beyond routine bookkeeping. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in delivering actionable insights that support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

General Ledger & Journal Entries: Prepare and post journal entries related to accruals, prepaids, fixed asset depreciation, payroll allocations, and intercompany transactions. Maintain reconciliations for 15 to 30 critical balance sheet accounts, including cash, accounts receivable/payable, inventory, and deferred revenue.

Month-End Close: Lead monthly and quarterly close cycles, ensuring trial balances are prepared, all entries recorded, and the close process is completed within 5 to 7 business days. Maintain detailed close checklists and obtain necessary cross-departmental approvals.

Financial Reporting: Generate profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports. Perform variance analyses comparing actual results to budgets and forecasts, providing written commentary for leadership. Prepare supporting schedules for audits and board meetings.

Audit & Compliance: Support external audits by preparing Prepared by Client (PBC) schedules. Ensure timely and accurate tax filings, including sales, property, and corporate income taxes. Document and enforce internal accounting policies.

Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies such as manual reconciliations or duplicate entries and recommend automation solutions. Implement accounting best practices and update standard operating procedures accordingly.

Team Support: Review and approve work performed by staff accountants and bookkeepers. Mentor junior team members on reconciliations, reporting, and GAAP compliance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) teams on budget versus actual reviews. Coordinate with operations and sales departments to ensure proper revenue recognition.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. Candidates should have 4 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience and be proficient with accounting software such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, or SAP. Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills are essential, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, and conditional formatting. A strong knowledge of GAAP and IFRS standards is necessary, along with excellent communication skills to effectively interact with finance professionals and non-financial stakeholders. The ability to manage detailed accounting tasks while providing strategic financial insights is critical.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

CPA or ACCA certification is highly desirable. Experience with multi-entity consolidations and foreign currency accounting is a plus. Candidates with backgrounds in SaaS, professional services, or real estate industries will be preferred. Experience with ERP implementations or accounting automation projects is also advantageous.

A typical day includes reviewing bank feeds and reconciling overnight transactions in NetSuite, posting accrual entries for payroll and vendor invoices, and running exception reports to identify anomalies. Midday tasks involve preparing draft profit and loss statements, reviewing expense allocations against budgets, and meeting with operations to align on deferred revenue recognition. Afternoons focus on mentoring junior accountants, reviewing reconciliations, and providing feedback. The day ends with updating variance analysis templates, preparing summary memos for the CFO, and documenting close checklist progress.

Key Performance Indicators

- Completion of month-end close within 5 business days
- Less than 1% error rate in account reconciliations
- 100% on-time delivery of audit requests
- Consistent provision of variance commentary to leadership

Interview Process

Candidates will first participate in an initial phone screen, followed by a video interview with a Pavago recruiter. A practical accounting task will assess skills such as account reconciliation and variance analysis. Successful candidates will then proceed to a client interview before receiving an offer and undergoing background verification.
