Aga Khan University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery in Karachi invites applications for the position of Senior Instructor. Key Responsibilities
The Senior Instructor will independently teach assigned theoretical and clinical courses within the undergraduate nursing program. This includes delivering lectures, assessing student performance through assignments and examinations, and applying effective teaching strategies tailored to course objectives and student needs. Supervision of students during clinical placements is essential, ensuring the practical application of theoretical knowledge, providing constructive feedback, and maintaining professional standards.
Developing detailed course grids that outline curriculum structure, teaching methods, assessment strategies, and scheduling is a critical responsibility. The Senior Instructor will implement evaluation tools for both classroom and clinical instruction, ensuring compliance with School and University policies. Providing both summative and formative feedback to students is vital to encourage self-directed learning, inquiry, and culturally relevant knowledge acquisition.
Identifying and addressing learning challenges related to self, students, or courses is expected, with recommendations for improvement and collaboration with senior faculty when necessary. The role also includes serving as an academic advisor to undergraduate students, supporting their academic and professional growth.
Active participation in research is required, including collaboration as a co-investigator with senior colleagues and involvement in disseminating research findings. Maintaining confidentiality of assessment tools and student advisement records is mandatory. The Senior Instructor will engage in program-related activities, meetings, and workshops to promote continuous improvement.
Additional duties include serving on School-level committees, representing the School in university-wide committees and strategic meetings, and mentoring junior faculty members in course development and teaching methodologies. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Nursing Education, or their designee.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree (MScN or MSc in MPH, Epidemiology, or Health Policy and Management) along with a basic nursing qualification (BScN or Post-RN Diploma in Nursing). Active licensure with the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC) is mandatory.
Valid certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Medication Administration, and Medication Recertification (where applicable) are required. Applicants should have a minimum of three years of clinical and/or teaching experience in a reputable organization.
A strong research background is essential, demonstrated by at least two published research papers in peer-reviewed, indexed journals, including one as first author, with at least one publication within the last two years. Clinical competence as a professional nurse and the ability to serve as an effective role model are critical.
Candidates must possess strong conceptual knowledge of nursing, the ability to integrate theory into practice, and proficiency in contemporary teaching methodologies. Familiarity with current research methods and the capacity to initiate research projects are expected.
Excellent academic writing, presentation, and communication skills in English and Urdu are required; proficiency in additional regional languages is advantageous. Competence in information and communication technology, strong analytical skills, and understanding of educational leadership and management principles are also necessary.
