Senior Software Engineer I - Backend

The Senior Software Engineer I position within the Engagement team’s Benefits Platform squad plays a crucial role in designing and scaling backend services that manage promotions and discounts, directly influencing Careem’s business and millions of users throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering peers to design and develop scalable, robust backend applications and services.
- Produce high-quality, efficient, and reliable code while independently handling assigned tasks and resolving bugs.
- Translate functional specifications into fully realized features with minimal supervision.
- Participate in the on-call rotation to quickly respond to and resolve incidents within established service level agreements (SLAs).
- Actively contribute to agile methodologies and engineering best practices, fostering continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications
- At least 4 years of professional experience in software development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Proficiency in one or more modern object-oriented programming languages such as Java, Golang, or Kotlin.
- Strong foundation in computer science principles, including object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
- Experience managing live online systems, including deploying updates reliably to production environments.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is advantageous.
- Hands-on experience with Golang, microservices architecture, and developing high-performance systems on AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of both relational and non-relational databases.
- Proven application of professional software engineering practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operational monitoring.
