Senior Software Engineer I - Backend

The Senior Software Engineer I role within the Engagement team focuses on the Benefits Platform squad, which manages the backend systems for promotions and discounts—key components of Careem’s business. This position offers the chance to work on high-impact projects, design scalable backend services, and influence the experience of millions of users across the region.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with engineering team members to develop highly scalable and robust backend applications and services.
- Write high-quality, performant, and reliable code while independently managing assigned tasks and bugs.
- Interpret functional specifications and deliver complete features with minimal supervision.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, promptly addressing and resolving incidents within defined service level agreements (SLAs).
- Engage actively in agile and engineering practices, contributing to their continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of professional software development experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Proficiency in at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as Java, Golang, or Kotlin.
- Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals including object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
- Experience managing and operating online systems reliably, including deploying changes to production environments.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline is advantageous.
- Experience with Golang, microservices architecture, and building high-performance systems on AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of both relational and non-relational database systems.
- Strong adherence to professional software engineering best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operational procedures.
