Senior Software Engineering Manager

The Senior Software Engineering Manager will lead the NextGen Programme, a strategic initiative focused on nurturing the next generation of engineers through a structured learning journey. This program emphasizes Clean Code, SOLID design principles, and scalable system architecture, covering diverse engineering domains such as Backend, Frontend, Web, Mobile, Data Analysis, MLOps, Infrastructure, Cyber Security, and QA. The role involves managing a team of skilled engineers and recent graduates, mentoring them through real-world projects, and guiding their growth into world-class professionals. The manager will also oversee the design and scaling of highly distributed, microservices-based systems that are essential to Careem’s core operations, including user interactions and payment processing.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of engineers within the NextGen Programme, ensuring high-quality service delivery and strong adherence to engineering fundamentals.
- Drive the design, development, and deployment of scalable distributed systems based on microservices architecture.
- Mentor engineers on best practices, including Clean Code, SOLID principles, and test-driven development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve technical challenges and improve engineering efficiency.
- Partner with leadership to define the technical roadmap and evolve the NextGen Programme’s structure.
- Foster a team culture focused on continuous learning, accountability, and engineering excellence.
- Maintain high team engagement through regular feedback, coaching, and support.

Required Qualifications:
- Over 10 years of software development experience, including at least 3 years in a management or senior engineering team lead role.
- Strong foundation in software engineering principles such as data structures, algorithms, software design, and object-oriented programming.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Go, Python, or .NET.
- Deep understanding of building scalable distributed systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.
- Proven leadership skills with a passion for talent development and building collaborative, high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and improve technical development processes.
