Shahwilayat Educational Trust

Education/Training · 101-200 employees - Karachi

SHAHWILAYAT EDUCATIONAL TRUST PROFILE INTRODUCTION: After the creation of Pakistan, large number of Sadaat-e-Amroha (community of Syeds historically settled in U.P. India) migrated to Pakistan from India and settled in Karachi. They founded Anjuman Sadat-e-Amroha to protect their rich heritage in an unfamiliar and unaccustomed environment. Sadaat-e-Amroha in short duration succeeded in maintaining their identity in the vast and populous city of Karachi. The Anjuman is a nationally well recognized organization. Having deep rooted motivation to contribute to education, 26 dedicated members of Anjuman Sadaat-e-Amroha as the settlers created Shahwilayat Educational Trust in the year 1982 to set up model schools in order to promote education and at the same time provide quality education at an affordable price. The Trust was named after Shah Sharfuddin Shahwilayat, the great Sufi saint who settled in Amroha over eight hundred years ago and whose mystic and genetic legacy the Sadat-e-Amroha are proud to be. MANAGEMENT: The Shahwilayat Educational Trust is managed by Board of Trustees. Any member of the Sadaat-e-Amroha community may become a Trustee after paying a certain amount. Currently there are over three hundred life trustees. There is an Executive Committee consisting of Managing Trustee and 19 other members elected by the Board of Trustees for two years who exercise the powers to perform the functions under the supervision of the Board of Trustees. Other office bearers are nominated by the Managing Trustee for running the affairs of the Trust. ESTABLISHMENT OF FIRST SCHOOL: It was George Barnard Shaw who said ¢ï¿½ï¿½The sole hope of human salvation lies in teaching. That is where the hope for Pakistan's future also rests. The management of the Trust after deploying strenuous and meticulous efforts succeeded to acquire one acre land from KDA in Block 13 of Federal Karachi for establishing a Shahwilayat Public School with the primary objective of providing high quality education. The foundation stone of the school was laid in 1985. The trustees with the help of some philanthropists succeeded in constructing a state of the art elegant building and school inauguration up to class V took place on August 2, 1990. Higher classes were added in the subsequent years and the first batch of 24 students appeared for Secondary School Board Exams and passed with 100% results. In the year 2004 school was registered with University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate and started level classes and the first batch of level passed with 100% results in 2005. In the same year school shifted to Agha Khan University Examination Board from Board of Education Karachi. Currently the School is providing teaching to more than 1600 students in three sections as follows: Junior School from Elementary to Class II Middle School from Class III to Class VII Senior School from Class VIII to Class X BUILDING & FACILITIES: The school is housed in a Building having three floor plus ground completely owned by the Trust comprising 60 class-rooms, two well stocked libraries, three fully equipped computer laboratories, a science room for middles, separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics laboratories for secondary and levels, an in house air-conditioned 200 seats auditorium, a gymnasium and other ancillary modern facilities under a covered area of 55,876 square feet to accommodate 1600 students between the ages of 3 years to 16 years. A vast playing area is also available for students. The building was constructed with a meager sum of Rs:19,898,395 is monument of the commitment of trustees to make the most efficient use of meager finances through exemplary zeal of the trustees by pooling the physical, mental and professional capabilities of the Saddat-e-Amroha community. The trustees are heavily indebted to all the selfless donors and supporters who made this fiat possible. OUR OBJECTIVES: A gift of wealth is a great gift, but the gift of knowledge is the most priceless treasure. Education is not mere getting a degree as a means of employment or livelihood. Education is believed to be responsible for the cultivation of a civilized society. Imparting education to the citizens enables the development of a responsible and thoughtful society. Education helps in imbibing moral and ethical values in the individuals and their education, in turn, helps in the creation of a healthy society that bears a deep understanding of principles and the philosophy of life. We are endeavoring to make this school to be a model, providing quality education maintaining a high level of standards with reasonable cost through the optimum use of available resources. Our objective is to provide high quality education at an affordable price. The quality and accessibility of education institution depend on quality of teaching faculty and the depth of financial resources. High quality education takes a long time and a greater amount of efforts and money to consistently produce good results. FINANCIAL RESOURCES: Endowment funds provide institutions with financial security, freedom and the opportunity to expand their resources both human and capital. The more funds are available to the institution, the more qualified teachers it can attract. The more available funds can also help the institution to provide education at affordable price and to extend financial assistance to needy deserving students. With hardly any endowment fund at the disposal of the trust, it still caters to the demands of educational standard through donations from trustees and other donors and largely through a rational fee policy keeping in view the inflationary pressure as well as the parents financial constraints. More than one third of the total students get the concessions in their fee. Our goal is to increase the financial assistance to the deserving students in each passing year without compromising on the quality of education. OUR MISSION: The mission is to extend knowledge, stimulate learning, and promote understanding for the benefit of humanity. SWET focuses on holistic learning environment to produce knowledgeable and academically sound individuals with ability to foster the promotion of thoughts and self-reliance. OUR VISION: Our vision is to develop institutions which would provide a par excellence academic and intellectual training and allied goals of education to prepare leaders of tomorrow. FUTURE PROGRAMS: In these challenging times the Trust continues to explore the locations where model schools can be established according to our vision. Now SWET is launching second school project very soon, for this purpose Trust got the possession of two plots around 4900 sq. yard each from Sadat-e-Amroha Cooperative Housing Society. A plot of land at Abuzar Cooperative Housing Society to establish a school has already been acquired. In these challenging times the Trust continues to explore the locations where model schools can be established according to our vision. The City District Government Karachi has been approached for allotment of a plot of land to establish another school in Federal Area. The Trust has also requested the Sindh Board of Revenue to allot 50 acres of land in the Education City, Karachi to establish institution for higher education. A plot of land at Abuzar Cooperative Housing Society to establish a school has already been acquired. Thus, besides the plans to set up at least two schools in Gulzar-e-Hijri Karachi (Scheme 33) in next five years, the Trust plans, in the short term, to set up another school in the vicinity of present school to meet the need of admission seekers. The long term plans of the Trust envisage a School of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences (SHASS) possibly on MIT model in the Education City. The vision is based on the assumption of dire need of studies in these fields and lack of response in the country to address it. We look forward to get support from all quarters to fulfill our commitments. The Trust with its excellent track record of most efficient utilization of available resources is looking forward for generating endowment funds to enable the trust to initiate new programs and expand existing ones whenever and wherever required. Generous support of affluent individuals as well as of corporate sector will enable us to achieve the desired targets.
