The NextGen Programme at Careem focuses on developing engineering talent by emphasizing clean code practices, SOLID principles, and robust system design. This program covers multiple engineering disciplines, including Backend, Frontend, Web, Mobile, Data Analysis, MLOps, Infrastructure, Cyber Security, and QA. Currently, the team is looking for Software Engineer II - Backend professionals who are passionate about distributed backend systems, scalability, and continuous development. Engineers will collaborate with top talent on advanced projects, gaining accelerated learning opportunities and exposure to cutting-edge technologies. Responsibilities include maintaining critical services that power the Careem platform, scaling highly distributed systems, and continuously improving engineering practices. These systems support essential functions ranging from user requests to payment processing. The technology stack involves Java 8, Spring Boot, Micro-Service Architecture, SQL and NoSQL databases, and AWS infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and enhance distributed backend systems to meet demanding functional, scalability, and reliability requirements in a fast-growing business environment.
- Maintain features and systems with a strong emphasis on code quality, maintainability, readability, and thorough testing.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, product owners, and designers to solve complex challenges across the platform.
- Contribute as an active member of an autonomous, cross-functional agile team.
- Deliver high-quality, production-ready code with a commitment to excellence.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 2-4 years of professional experience in software engineering.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
- Proven ability to solve complex problems and write clean, maintainable code.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical challenges and solutions.
- Adaptability to work with loosely defined problems and rapidly changing requirements.
- Passion for learning new technologies and contributing to products with large-scale impact.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AWS cloud services.
