This position is for a Specialist in Fiber Optics Operations based in Bahawalpur, focusing on maintaining and optimizing the fiber optics network within a leading telecommunications company. The role is essential to the Fiber Optics Operations Department, which manages both Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP) operations. This department serves as the backbone network, ensuring high availability through proactive preventive and corrective maintenance. The Specialist will handle timely resolution of fiber optics-related trouble tickets, adhering to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to support the network’s overall health and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain fiber network availability while ensuring strict compliance with SLAs. Operate and maintain Huawei SDH, DWDM, MSTP, OTN, IPRAN, and FTTS equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve fiber network faults and degraded links both remotely and on-site. Demonstrate expertise in fiber splicing and jointing techniques. Assist Fiber Optics Engineers and Team Leads in daily operational tasks. Support fault management processes and ensure adherence to key performance indicators (KPIs). Keep network documentation current, including fiber pair utilization and as-built drawings. Provide technical support to area teams for on-site fault resolution and queries. Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors, including performance evaluation reporting. Participate in preventive maintenance planning and execution for fiber infrastructure. Manage tools, test equipment calibration, and spare parts inventory. Engage in acceptance testing and handover/takeover activities for new fiber sections and ISP equipment. Assist with installation, commissioning, and integration of transmission equipment. Conduct civil works inspections to ensure fiber cable protection and verify vendor invoices. Generate periodic reports and assist in fault trend analysis related to fiber cables and optical system levels.
Required Qualifications
Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) in Electrical/Electronic, Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech), or an equivalent qualification. A minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience with Optical Fiber Transmission systems in a field environment. Proficiency in using optical test instruments such as OTDR, Power Meters, GPS, and Visual Fault Locators (VFL). Basic understanding of DWDM, IPRAN, and OTN technologies. Skilled in using mapping tools such as Google Earth and Map Source. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
