Empowerment Technologies Inc. (ETI), a leader in innovative DIY security and baby safety products with over 20 years of industry experience, is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our fully remote team. This role focuses on managing daily bookkeeping, reconciliations, and month-end close activities that support consolidated financial statements. The ideal candidate will have a solid grasp of accounting principles, experience in UK, US, Canadian, or UAE accounting environments, and the discipline to meet deadlines while working remotely in alignment with North American time zones.

Key Responsibilities

Cash & Banking: Accurately post daily cash receipts, wire transfers, and ACH transactions. Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all operating and foreign exchange accounts, ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items. Reconcile corporate and virtual credit cards, verifying that expenses are properly coded to general ledger accounts.

Accounts Receivable: Apply customer payments, credit notes, and chargebacks within the ERP system. Monitor customer portals to confirm receipts and identify discrepancies. Initiate disputes or claims for unmatched items and maintain an updated issues log for management review.

Accounts Payable: Download, verify, and upload vendor invoices into the approval workflow on a weekly basis. Match purchase orders, packing slips, and invoices; post approved invoices and schedule payments accordingly. Prepare weekly payment runs (EFT/ACH/wire) for managerial approval.

Inventory & Cost of Goods: Record inventory receipts, transfers, and adjustments in the ERP system. Assist with monthly inventory valuation and reconcile inventory accounts to the general ledger to ensure accuracy.

General Ledger Reconciliations: Maintain monthly balance-sheet reconciliation workbooks for assigned accounts including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, prepaids, fixed assets, taxes, loans, and equity. Prepare and upload supporting schedules by the third business day each month.

Financial Reporting Support: Compile pre-close general ledger tie-out checklists and highlight outstanding items. Respond promptly to follow-up questions from the Accounting Manager or Controller to support timely reporting.

Continuous Improvement & Collaboration: Adhere to all documented standard operating procedures (SOPs) and proactively suggest process improvements to reduce manual effort. Maintain organized workpapers for audit readiness and provide status updates during daily team check-ins.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field. Minimum of three years of full-cycle accounting and bookkeeping experience, with at least three years working in UK, US, Canadian, or UAE accounting environments. Proven ability to prepare account reconciliations, post journal entries, and manage accounts receivable and payable. Fluent in English with excellent communication skills. Ability to work aligned with Eastern Standard Time (Canada) to coordinate effectively with the team. A collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

This role offers the opportunity to impact financial accuracy from day one by shaping reconciliations that support key business decisions. Candidates will benefit from career growth through mentorship by a CPA-designated Accounting Manager and the chance to accrue hours toward professional certification. ETI provides a remote-first work environment that offers flexibility to work from anywhere while collaborating with a high-performing distributed team. Employees have access to continuous learning opportunities, including training, modern cloud tools, and involvement in automation projects. The company fosters an inclusive culture that values open communication, accountability, and recognition of hard work.
