•  Provide immediate care when a person is injured.
  •  Being responsible for preventive care, the school doctor has to inform management and parents on existing medical emergency.
  • The family doctor / general practitioner or the specialist doctor is responsible for providing further medical care to children.
  • Any medical first aid administered must always be documented.
  • This is so that what happened when and why can be tracked afterwards.
  • Documents you make (including clinical records) to formally record your work must be clear, accurate and legible.
  • You should make records at the same time as the events you are recording or as soon as possible afterwards.
  •  You must make clear records of all the discussions and your reasons for suggesting any supportive or medical treatment. All the information will be recorded by nurse on duty.
  •  If management is asked for any written documents e.g. injury report, statement etc. you have to submit.
  •   If you are aware of any medical illness of students or staff you should have a readily available record.
  • You should make sure that the nurse to whom you delegate responsibility for dispensing medicines in your own practice is competent to do what you ask of them.
  • You should also provide student and parents with information about the medicines you prescribe in his/her best interests.
  •   You have to make sure the availability of adequate medicine and supportive equipment.
  • You are only responsible for medical issues and patients’ health not for academic or management related problems or decisions so avoid to discuss the same with parents as well as with management.
  • You cannot leave the medical room unless you are called to deal with any emergency outside the medical room.
  • You are responsible for the patient’s care and treatment within school premises.  
  • You are required to examine head hygiene of the students regularly and make record of it.
  • You are required to conduct annual physical check-up of all the students.
  • You are required to sign the daily complaint register before the off time.
  • The school doctor has to submit an annual report.
