oomi® is a leading supplier of CRM solutions to the UK Not for Profit (NFP) sector.  Currently focusing on the membership sector, oomi’s client base ranges from Nautical Institute to the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow.  oomi® has assembled one of the most experienced management teams in this sector in the UK and is now entering a period of rapid growth.  oomi® was first to market in the UK NFP sector with a true MS Windows application, first with a true client-server implementation and now leads the way again with its unrivalled cloud-based, low-code platform.  oomi® is seeking a Senior Operations Engineer to look after oomi’s development and production environment.

Role

As oomi’s Senior Operations Engineer, you will report to the COO in the UK and be an expert on operations – SysOps, AWS Ops, DevOps, and SecOps.  You will be hands-on, looking after all aspects of our Windows-based infrastructure hosted with AWS from architecture design to monitoring to pro-active maintenance to security.  You will ensure the availability, performance, security, and scalability of our cloud-based production system.

You will work with outside experts to improve and refactor our environment. 

Responsibilities:

As Sr. Operations Engineer, you will need to:

  • look after oomi’s cloud-based production and development environment
  • plan and maintain the systems to ensure systems are up to date on security best practices
  • strive to meet internal SLAs in terms of up-time, performance, security
  • have a near fanatical view to automating processes – for example, the release deployment process across our multiple platforms and services to remove the human element or the automatic diagnostic research of issues to reduce the manual effort involved in resolving issues
  • provide support and technical issue resolution for the cloud-based environment
  • ensure monitoring and log analysis are up-to-date and used to find issues quickly and efficiently
  • troubleshoot, manage, and track issues that might occur
  • respond to client and internal team member issues promptly
  • perform timely escalation of issues to various departments (e.g., development) for further analysis and resolution
  • be proactive in finding and resolving issues, and, wherever possible, before clients are impacted by the issues
  • act as an escalation point for production issues, both within office hours and outside office hours
  • mentor and lead junior members of the team
  • regularly review security and system setup to ensure everything is working as expected
  • keep up to date on operations matters, and drive the advancement of the production environment
  • work to minimise costs while maintaining a high standard of service delivery

  • You will work closely with developers to create an automated release process that covers development, staging, test, and product systems
  • You will be data orientated, ensuring that data on the systems is collected and can be used to evaluate issues as well as improvements

Qualifications / Skills / Experience Requirements

You will need to have:

  • 3-5 years’ experience with System Operations
  • 1-2 years’ experience with DevOps a strong plus
  • experience creating and running Change management system for HW and SW management
  • experience in installation, backup, configuration, operation, and monitoring of windows systems
  • knowledge of ensuring availability, performance, security, and scalability of cloud-based production systems.
  • 1-year experience with AWS (preferred) or similar cloud-based system
  • experience deploying and maintaining security system across environment
  • Good understanding of networking concepts (up to CCNA level preferred)
  • experience with Python/Powershell or similar scripting language.
  • solid understanding of windows management and server maintenance
  • experience with automation and/or configuration management tools (Salt, Puppet or Chef)
  • knowledge in the management of creation, release, and configuration of production systems
  • knowledge in evaluating new technology alternatives and vendor products
  • certification in Microsoft is a plus
  • experience in Microsoft management tools is a plus
  • ITIL/Prince or PMP cert is a plus
