Senior Database Administrator

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for seamless operation of the Branchless Banking payment gateway within Telenor Bank Pakistan. Responsible for managing a team of DBA’s who under his guidance perform management and operations of the entire Database Technology Stack. Working within the strategic direction set out by Senior Management; for servicing and optimizing database technologies reducing technology operations costs and providing best possible DBA services for sustained availability and performance of enterprise business applications and data management systems.

·         Provide the leadership and direction for delivery of highly available, scalable, consistent, quality database services and support.

·         Responsible for ensuring that all databases are securely operating at expected levels. Develop and maintain SLAs and metrics for all database systems.

·         Manages capacity planning, system configuration, performance analysis, and optimization efforts for all database systems.

·         Establish and implement database technology strategic direction, standards and procedures that will optimize database architectures, reliability, and performance.

·         Define database disaster recovery strategy and insure periodic recovery testing and audit reviews.

·         Install, design and maintain database system software and implement database security.

·         Monitor and analyze database performance and ensure effective and efficient utilization of database systems/processes.

·         Maintain database dictionaries and support tools; develop and maintain accurate system documentation.

·         Participate in the development and maintenance of strategic, architectural and tactical plans for company’s database and data warehouse environments; be conversant with, and cognizant of, the future direction of systems, how that direction impacts the company, and how future and current database systems can be exploited for the company’s benefit. 

·         Assist with the development of the strategic direction of the company regarding technology.

·         Provide senior technical leadership on database systems and solutions. 

·         Provide individual mentoring and training on databases and tools. 

·         Recommend, test and evaluate new technologies, software tools and required skill sets; recommend and implement improvements.

Work with Information Technology groups to implement a Business Continuance solution for the database environment, including the installation and configuration of database software and replication processes. 

Required Knowledge, Competencies, Skills and Experience:

·         Experience in working with Oracle, PostgreSQL, MYSQL, Non-Relational DB’s

·         Experience in Query Writing, Query Optimization, Data security

·         Experience in System Support (meaning: IT and Operating Systems Support)

·         Experience of Business Intelligence

·         Expert knowledge of Oracle database backups, and recovery / restores. Use of Oracle RMAN.

·         Knowledge of systems used to monitor performance and availability of Oracle databases, such as Oracle GRID.

·         Experienced in redundant database design, using technologies such as Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters). Experience with technologies such as Oracle DataGuard for use in failover and Disaster Recovery situations.  Minimum 3 years of experience with Oracle RAC.

·         High level of proficiency in Linux Operating Systems required. Minimum 10 years of experience with Linux or Unix system administration experience

·         Demonstrated experience in the use of Oracle PL / SQL scripting for task automation.

·         Structured and self-driven, with a focus on deliverables
