Key Responsibilities:

  • Retrieval, review and filing of information to tax authorities during the course of various tax proceedings from federal and provincial tax authorities and in response to tax notices
  • Maintenance of tax record for ease of access
  • Probability analysis and provision requirement with respect to tax issues
  • Supervision of tax compliance and streamlining of related processes for efficiency and to ensure readiness for tax audits and proceedings
  • Current and deferred tax accounting
  • Represent the Bank before federal and provincial tax authorities and appellate forums. 
  • Manage external tax advisors / legal counsel.
  • Develop excellent coordination and working interfaces within Finance and with other departments. 
  • Preparing and updating status with respect to tax assessments, audits, notices and appeal/litigation. 
  • Assist in tax advisory for new products and implementation of the same with the help of accounting and other teams. 
  • Weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting of tax issues to supervisor. 
  • Raising alarm in respect of potential recovery proceedings and to execute timely action plan and legal remedies to protect the Bank and its assets from unjust recoveries
  • Preparation of tax projections and tax planning in line with corporate strategy and coming up with proposals for tax savings.

Required Knowledge, Competencies, Skills and Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of federal (Direct and Indirect tax) and provincial tax laws
  • Good Accounting and Financial Reporting concepts and related processes and controls
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (Oracle)
  • Ability to interpret and analyze financial and tax data
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills

Prior experience of working in financial services industry would be an advantage.

  • 6-8 years of relevant experience

Required Qualification, Education and Certifications:

CA/CA(Finalist)/ACCA/ACMA/APFA/MBA Finance/member of a recognized International body of professional accountants with relevant tax experience
