The position:
- We are looking for a full time writer for a rapidly-growing cricket news website.
- This is not a freelance position, it is a full time position with the company,
- You will be expected to write multiple original articles daily.
- Note that as this is a staff writer position, most if not all the articles will have no by-lines.
Background or Requirements:
- There are 2 extremely crucial requirements:
- Extremely strong written English writing skills with highly polished Western grammar.
- This is essential, as the audience for our website is mostly outside Pakistan, although some are in Pakistan.
- You should be able to write pieces that will be published in international publications with respect to grammar and polish.
- Passion for cricket
- If you have these 2, then you are a viable candidate and we will consider you.
- Beyond this, some additional positive background items are:
Professional journalism or blogging experience is a plus.
Business or economics journalism or data journalism, or any experience writing about data or quantitative issues is a huge plus.
Strong research skills and resourcefulness in gathering information is extremely helpful.
Strong editing skills are also extremely helpful.
- As far as location goes, we are flexible, as this is a work-from-home position (see below).
- That said, we have a slight preference for someone based in Lahore.
- But if you are not in Lahore please don’t let that stop you -- more than anything we’re looking for the most qualified writer.
Work from home role:
We are a distributed organization, where everybody works from home in different countries.
If you are someone who has a strong need to work outside of home, to commute, or to work in an office surrounded by co-workers, then this may not be the right job for you.
If you are someone who needs to work from home or who strongly prefer to work from home, or greatly enjoy the advantages of working from home, then this job is for you.
You are expected to be productive at home. So you need a setup and a work arrangement where you can work and be productive.
You need to be or become familiar with distributed team productivity platforms such as video conferencing (Ex. Google hangouts) and company chat (ex. Glip, which is what we use, which is simlar to Slack)
Because we are a distributed organization, written communication is extremely important -- clear messages in company chat, well and precisely articulated documents, etc. form the backbone of our collaboration. This is something you should be very comfortable with.
This also means you need to be a highly honest and accountable person. Nobody is going to be looking over your shoulder constantly. We expect you to be self motivated and deliver result

- After an interview, if your performance is strong, as a next step you will be asked to write some pieces as trials.
- Our policy is to pay candidates for work done as trials so you will be paid for these.
