Background:

White Ribbon Alliance is a global safe motherhood movement (www.whiteribbonalliance.org) working to improve the lives and mothers and newborns. Its Pakistan chapter known as White Ribbon Alliance Pakistan (WRA-P);  is a non-profit locally registered entity that has been active since 2008 and been part of several important developments on the policy landscape in Pakistan. WRA Pakistan is implementing an advocacy focused project on Maternal Anemia in Sindh and requires services of a Provincial Coordinator (PC). The PC will be responsible for the delivery of the campaign activities, as well as the day-to-day organizing and planning, coordination and engagement for WRA members, campaign partners and government officials, as well as project and financial management for activities within the province.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  The PC  will perform the following tasks:

  •  Plan and carry out advocacy /activities at the provincial level to highlight the issue of Maternal Anemia and garner support in bridging the gaps. This may include advocacy meetings with government officials, parliamentarians, policy makers or other influencers, workshops, seminars, citizen mobilization, civil society engagement or other strategy and tactics.
  • Maintain strong and cordial coordination with relevant government officials and departments, including the DoH, Education, P&D and Nutrition cell at provincial level and with sector stakeholders for smooth project execution.1
  • Represent White Ribbon Alliance Pakistan in different advocacy working groups, meetings, workshops, seminar, trainings and briefing sessions as appropriate and ensure proper documentation and circulation of the key updates in this connection.
  • Coordinate, engage and update WRA members, campaign partners and officials in Sindh province.
  • Prepare consolidated monthly, quarterly and yearly reports encompassing activities, inputs, meetings, new ideas and targets vs achievements.
  • Develop strong professional linkages with journalists and other media personnel.
  • Explore institutional funding opportunities and take-up requests for proposal and gathering all relevant information from program team, partners, NGOs & INGOs, public bodies etc.
  • Support and contribute in review and revision of  project work-plan and financial plans, as required by the National/ Global Secretariat;
  • Support logistics and event management for workshops, seminars etc.
  • Lead WRA membership drive in Sindh
  • Responsible for any other task assigned by line manager

Travel:

This position seeks travel to project area for various meetings and project related activities (within Sindh) (30% travel)

 Qualification and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Development studies / Sociology/ Public Health or relevant field
  • At least three years of working experience in development sector on similar assignments and 2-3 years of working experience in advocacy and community mobilization; demonstrated ability to lead advocacy campaigns, coordinate and communicate and build strong relationship with partners.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a strong experience in grassroots mobilization and engagement, and/or expertise in social accountability.
  • Candidate should have experience of conducting popular and community mobilization activities
  • Candidate should have good knowledge and experience of working in - collaboration with government (Health, Education, Planning and Development Department etc.) departments
  • Candidate should have good knowledge and experience of working with the media
  • Candidate should possess strong reporting and communication skills and experience

  • Excellent communication in English language both in verbal and written formats
  • Well versed with computer use especially with the use of MS Office
  • Effective networking skills and ability to coordinate with different stakeholders
  • Excellent knowledge of computer systems; proficient in MS Excel, Ms Word, Outlook;
