Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Accounting Manager to lead client engagements and manage a portfolio of SME clients across various industries. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, excellent client management skills, and a proactive approach to mentoring junior staff. This role is suited for someone who thrives in a close- knit, high-performance environment typical of a boutique accountancy practice.
Key Responsibilities Client Management
· Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients, ensuring timely delivery of services.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with business owners and stakeholders.
· Provide strategic advice on business planning, financial performance, and tax efficiency.
Accounts & Tax Compliance
· Review and finalise monthly management accounts, statutory accounts under UK GAAP / FRS 102 for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders.
· Oversee and review corporation tax computations and VAT returns.
· Ensure timely submissions to HMRC and Companies House.
· Liaise with external auditors where required.
Advisory & Value-Add Services
· Support clients with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.
· Advise on company structuring, R&D tax credits, capital allowance claims, and director remuneration strategies.
· Stay abreast of tax changes and relay implications to clients proactively.
Team Leadership & Development
· Supervise, mentor, and review the work of junior and semi-senior staff.
· Deliver technical training and encourage professional development.
· Assist in recruitment and performance reviews.
Practice Operations
· Contribute to process improvements and digitalisation of the firm (e.g., automation, software implementation).
· Assist in business development and proposal preparation.
· Ensure compliance with AML, GDPR, and internal quality standards.
Qualifications & Experience
· ACA / ACCA finalist or fully qualified (or equivalent).
· Minimum 3+ years post-qualification experience, preferably in a UK practice environment.
· Strong experience preparing and reviewing statutory accounts and tax returns.
· Experience managing a team and leading client relationships.
· Working knowledge of accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, IRIS, or CCH).
