Position Overview

Oracle Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the availability, integrity, accessibility and performance of all corporate databases

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops strategic and tactical plans for developing and maintaining corporate databases
  • Develops baseline and system models to monitor DBMS and processing performance
  • Coordinates enhancements and upgrades with other IT groups
  • Develops capacity planning standards, monitors capacity metrics and balances present and future capacity requirements
  • Keeps abreast of latest technologies and trends and makes recommendations for incorporation when appropriate
  • Conduct regular Performance Tuning and Query Optimization using monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc. along with detect and troubleshoot CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention problems
  • Implement operational automation
  • Documents database processes and procedures (such as creating KBs, runbooks, topology, etc.)
  • Conduct SQL Development – ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code (stored procs, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints and other scripting languages)
  • Weekly and monthly status reports to higher management
  • Participate in business meetings with various stake holders
  • Take corrective actions based on surveys and incidences
  • Ensures problem resolution by initializing and tracking problem assignments and initiates escalation as appropriate to the next level of support personnel or vendors 

Required Skills

  • 6+ years of experience required as a database administrator
  • Experience required in reporting, forecasting, capacity planning, and implementing database solutions across multiple platforms
  • Experience required in backups, restores, clustering, mirroring, replication, indexing and performance tuning
  • Experience working on third party DBA tools and applications
  • Analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Logical, efficient & proactive
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and possess an ability to adapt quickly and easily. Ability to analyze complex problems and move them to resolution
