This role involves leading a team of four or more accountants while managing a portfolio of eCommerce client files. You will be responsible for reviewing their work, running month-end closes within a five-day timeframe, and maintaining direct communication with company founders. The portfolio size typically ranges from 10 to 25 client files, depending on their complexity, with clients being eCommerce brands generating between seven and nine figures in revenue. This position requires hands-on involvement, with daily reviews of accounting work rather than weekly oversight. The role operates fully within Eastern Standard Time (9 am to 5 pm) to ensure consistent collaboration with both clients and your team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and review the work of a team of accountants to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Own full-cycle accounting processes across multiple client files, often running several month-ends in parallel.
- Execute month-end close within a strict five-day deadline.
- Review financial statements for both logical consistency and accuracy before delivery to clients.
- Provide direct, constructive feedback to team members and actively follow up on performance.
- Handle client communications, including managing expectations around delays or unfavorable news.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and implement automation where possible.
Required Qualifications
- A professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CA, CIMA, ACA, Contador Público, or an equivalent certification from your country.
- At least five years of accounting experience in a firm or multi-client environment.
- Minimum of two years managing or reviewing the work of other accountants.
- Experience managing multiple separate client books, each with distinct deadlines and stakeholders (not subsidiaries within one system).
- Proven ability to meet fixed month-end deadlines; experience with rolling closes requires readiness to adapt to a five-day close.
- Strong hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online or Xero, capable of performing accounting tasks independently, not just reviewing.
- Ability to provide direct verbal feedback and hold performance conversations with team members.
- Proficient English communication skills to engage effectively with North American clients on live calls.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience working with eCommerce or consumer goods clients.
- Knowledge of inventory management and cost of goods sold (COGS).
- QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification.
- Skills in financial planning and analysis (FP&A) or financial modeling.
- Familiarity with project management tools such as ClickUp.
Benefits
- Paid time off including personal days, statutory holidays based on your country, and year-end company closure.
- Support for certifications and internal training fully covered by the company.
- Opportunities for promotion based on performance and impact.
- Fully remote work with an asynchronous-first culture.
This position demands full availability during EST business hours and a commitment to hands-on accounting leadership. It is not suitable for those seeking to reduce their accounting involvement, avoid difficult team conversations, or manage external client work simultaneously. Candidates who have only worked with flexible or rolling month-end deadlines or who cannot maintain the required schedule should reconsider applying.
The hiring process includes a brief application with a video submission, an introductory call with the People Team, a practical assessment, and a final interview with accounting leadership before an offer is extended.
