This is a remote accounting leadership role requiring full overlap with EST hours (9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday). The position is open to candidates based in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. You will lead a team of 2 to 4 accountants, managing a portfolio of eCommerce client files primarily consisting of 7 to 9 figure brands based in the US and Canada. The portfolio size typically ranges from 10 to 25 client files, varying by complexity. You will be responsible for reviewing your team’s work, running month-end closes on a strict five-day cycle, and maintaining direct communication with client founders. This role demands hands-on involvement rather than purely oversight, requiring daily engagement with both your team and clients during EST business hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and review the work of a team of accountants, providing direct and constructive feedback.
- Own full-cycle accounting processes across multiple client files, ensuring accuracy and logical consistency before financials reach clients.
- Run month-end close processes within a five-day timeframe, often handling several month ends simultaneously.
- Conduct client communications, including managing expectations around delays or difficult news.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and implement automation where possible.
- Take ownership of gaps in existing processes and contribute to building and refining workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or a professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CA, CPA, CIMA, ACA, CMA, or an equivalent certification (in progress also accepted).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting within a firm or multi-client environment.
- At least 2 years of experience reviewing or managing other accountants’ work.
- Proven ability to manage three or more separate client books simultaneously, each with distinct deadlines and stakeholders (not subsidiaries of one company).
- Experience working with clients or employers outside your own country, ideally in the US or Canada.
- Demonstrated success in meeting fixed month-end deadlines.
- Hands-on proficiency with cloud-based accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or Zoho Books. Experience limited to QuickBooks Desktop, Tally, or on-premise ERPs alone is insufficient.
- Strong communication skills in English at B2 level or above (C1 preferred), capable of conducting live calls with North American clients.
- Ability to provide direct, performance-related feedback to team members through conversations, not just written notes.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience with eCommerce or consumer goods clients.
- Knowledge of inventory management and cost of goods sold (COGS).
- QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification.
- Skills in financial planning & analysis (FP&A) or financial modeling.
- Familiarity with project management tools such as ClickUp or similar platforms.
Benefits
- Paid time off including personal days, statutory holidays based on your country, and year-end company closure.
- Support for professional certifications and internal training fully covered by the company.
- Opportunities for promotion based on performance and impact.
- Fully remote work environment with an async-first culture.
This role is not suitable if you prefer to step back from hands-on accounting, avoid difficult conversations with your team, or currently run your own accounting practice or freelance client book. Candidates whose experience is primarily audit-focused rather than full-cycle accounting, or who have only worked with rolling or flexible close deadlines, will find this role challenging. Additionally, the requirement to work full EST hours without flexibility is non-negotiable, so it may not be a fit if this schedule negatively impacts your health or lifestyle.
The hiring process includes a short application with brief questions and an audio response, followed by an introductory call with the People Team, a practical assessment, a final interview with accounting leadership, and then an offer.
