As a member of the Headquarters Technical Unit (TU) Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Team, you will provide technical quality oversight, programmatic guidance, and support to global and country-level MHPSS activities. This role requires the ability to perform essential functions independently or with reasonable accommodation, ensuring effective implementation of mental health and psychosocial programs in diverse humanitarian contexts.

Key Responsibilities

- Program Support: Provide guidance and oversight to country teams in developing and implementing culturally appropriate mental health and psychosocial activities. This includes integration of mental health into primary health care, MHPSS case management, Early Childhood Development, Psychological First Aid, and designing holistic recreational, vocational, and social activities for children and youth, particularly targeting refugees and crisis-affected populations. Support peer support programs for individuals with chronic or severe mental illness, mental health advocacy, and other initiatives aligned with global guidelines and International Medical Corps (IMC) approaches.

- Proposal Development: Assist country teams in expanding MHPSS programming and contribute to the development of project proposals.

- Standards and Principles: Ensure all MHPSS work adheres to Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) guidelines for MHPSS support in emergencies. Promote global guidelines such as the IASC MHPSS guidelines whenever appropriate.

- Program Compliance: Ensure complementary and holistic community-based MHPSS programming complies with IMC’s MHPSS approach and Technical Unit guidance on minimum and comprehensive quality standards.

- Crosscutting Integration: Support country teams in integrating MHPSS with Nutrition, Health, Child Protection, and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) programs to maintain a holistic approach.

- Coordination: Facilitate country-level coordination working groups, promoting IMC’s active participation or leadership. Support advocacy, coordination, and mapping activities within these groups.

- Stakeholder Engagement: Assist country teams in coordinating with government authorities, international and national organizations, advocating for best practices and partnerships aligned with national strategies.

- Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop and implement standardized tools to monitor and evaluate IMC MHPSS programs across the region. Document lessons learned through evidence-based practices to support project replication or expansion.

- Representation: Represent IMC and its MHPSS programs at relevant national and international conferences and meetings.

- Travel: Provide remote and in-person support through frequent field visits.

- Reporting: Deliver regular updates and reports to the TU Senior Global MHPSS Advisor and regional Senior Director. Maintain consistent communication regarding planning, methods, tools, and progress.

- Field Visit Outputs: Produce detailed field trip reports including situational analysis, program support provided, and recommendations for improvement. Include annexes with all work products such as new or improved MHPSS tools used during assignments.

- Perform other duties as assigned, reflecting the evolving nature of the role.

Required Qualifications

- A minimum of a four-year university degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Professional qualification as a mental health specialist (psychologist, clinical social worker, psychiatrist, or psychiatric nurse) with clinical practice experience.

- At least 10 years of relevant and progressive experience in the mental health field, including a minimum of 5 years establishing and managing MHPSS programs in humanitarian or low-resource settings.

- In-depth knowledge of global guidelines, particularly the IASC Guidelines on MHPSS in Emergency Settings.

- Experience in training, capacity building, and mentoring others.

- Strong organizational, supervisory, reporting, and writing skills.

- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in diverse cultural environments.

- Self-motivated, honest, hardworking, and able to work both independently and within a team.

- Ability to manage stressful workloads and operate with limited resources.

- Willingness and ability to travel frequently and on short notice to project sites.

- Excellent command of spoken and written English.
