A leading North American tech startup specializing in all-in-one transportation management software for K-12 school districts is seeking a QA Engineer with a strong focus on automation and AI-native tools. This role is critical as the company scales rapidly, ensuring software quality is maintained at the highest level to build and retain trust with school districts. The ideal candidate will lead the development of automated testing frameworks from the ground up, emphasizing automation depth over manual testing hours. Daily use of AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code or Cowork is essential, as these are integral to designing, generating, and refining tests. Manual testing will still be performed when necessary, but the primary goal is to deliver fast, stable, and comprehensive automation coverage across UI, API, and end-to-end workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement automated test frameworks from scratch, preferably using Playwright, including architecture, structure, conventions, and CI integration.
- Aggressively expand automation coverage across UI, API, and end-to-end scenarios while maintaining fast and reliable test suites.
- Utilize Claude Code or Cowork daily to generate, refactor, and harden test scripts, create test data, debug flaky tests, and review code changes, ensuring the quality of all shipped software.
- Conduct targeted manual testing for new features, edge cases, exploratory testing, and releases where automation is not yet feasible.
- Translate product requirements and user stories into clear, detailed test plans and automated test coverage.
- Identify, document, and track defects with precise, reproducible details to facilitate quick resolution by developers.
- Collaborate closely with developers and product managers throughout the development lifecycle to catch issues early.
- Continuously improve test coverage, reliability, and the team’s approach to quality assurance, leveraging AI-assisted tools.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on QA experience with a strong emphasis on automation over manual testing.
- Proven expertise in automation tools such as Playwright (preferred), Cypress, or Selenium, along with proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Demonstrated ability to build automation frameworks from scratch, including making architectural decisions rather than just maintaining existing frameworks.
- Extensive and current experience using Claude Code, Cowork, or equivalent AI-driven coding tools for real automation tasks, including test generation, suite refactoring, and debugging. This is a mandatory requirement.
- Solid foundation in manual testing principles, including test case design, exploratory testing, regression testing, and defect reporting.
- Keen attention to detail and a strong instinct for identifying how software can fail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and product teams.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability for software quality.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience building custom Claude Code commands, hooks, sub-agents, or Cowork plugins to enhance QA workflows.
- Background in mobile testing and experience with complex web applications or SaaS products.
- Familiarity with API testing tools such as Postman, REST Assured, or Playwright API.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests using platforms like GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
- Experience working with Git and agile development workflows.
- Background in transportation, logistics, education, or other mission-driven software sectors is a plus.
Work Details
- Remote, full-time position with a night shift schedule.
- Working days: Monday to Friday.
- Working hours: 6 PM to 3 AM (flexible).
- Benefits include outpatient department (OPD) coverage, paid leaves, and a tax-free salary.
This opportunity offers a chance to join a fast-growing startup where quality assurance is a core value and innovation through AI-assisted automation is embraced daily.
