We are seeking a detail-oriented data engineer who excels at transforming complex business questions into reliable, well-structured data solutions. In this role, you will build and maintain trusted data models, investigate data issues thoroughly, and take ownership of how changes impact downstream users and assets. You will collaborate closely with business partners and a small, agile data team to ensure data products meet evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain dbt models and certified data marts for key business domains.
- Collaborate with business partners and analysts to translate requirements into clear data definitions, models, and metrics.
- Establish and enforce consistent business logic for shared metrics and dimensions.
- Create and maintain data quality tests; investigate failures and trace issues to their root causes.
- Document model purpose, ownership, definitions, dependencies, and known limitations.
- Evaluate downstream impacts before implementing changes to models, metrics, or source assumptions.
- Use Git and established review and deployment processes to safely release changes.
- Support datasets and semantic models used in reporting layers and applications.
- Continuously improve existing models and workflows in response to changing business needs and source systems.
- Communicate trade-offs, dependencies, and delivery risks effectively to both technical and business stakeholders.
- Complete ongoing security awareness training and comply with company policies.
- Identify and escalate security risks to executive leadership and actively participate in remediation efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience building production-grade data models.
- Hands-on experience with dbt or a comparable data transformation framework.
- Familiarity with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
- Expertise in designing dimensional models and data marts.
- Experience with testing, documenting, and maintaining data models.
- Knowledge of Git and collaborative code review and release workflows.
- Ability to investigate data discrepancies and clearly explain their causes.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work closely with business partners to clarify requirements and resolve metric definition differences.
- Excellent documentation skills and consistent follow-through.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience using Python for data tasks or automation.
- Background supporting data integration related to mergers and acquisitions.
- Experience owning semantic models and master data management.
- Familiarity with IT, VAR, distribution, or supply chain data domains.

What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means core business data is organized into documented, tested, and reusable models and marts. Teams consistently use shared metric definitions, and an internal marketplace for certified datasets is established. Data issues are resolved at their source whenever possible. Changes undergo thorough review and testing before release, with clear assessment of downstream effects. Analysts and business partners can easily find and understand the data products they need. Ownership and model logic are well documented, reducing reliance on undocumented knowledge.
