Architect – Commerce + ESL

We are seeking an experienced Commerce and Enterprise Service Layer (ESL) Architect to lead the design and governance of scalable digital commerce and enterprise integration solutions. This role will be responsible for owning the architecture across commerce platforms, APIs, microservices, ESL, and enterprise backend systems, ensuring that all solutions meet stringent requirements for security, scalability, resilience, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

- Define the end-to-end solution architecture for Commerce and ESL platforms, ensuring seamless integration and alignment with business goals.
- Design integrations between Commerce platforms and critical systems such as ERP, CRM, OMS, PIM, CMS, payments, inventory, and fulfillment.
- Establish API, microservices, event-driven, and messaging integration patterns to support robust and flexible system interactions.
- Develop and enforce architecture standards covering API security, authentication, error handling, logging, monitoring, and performance optimization.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to Commerce, ESL, backend, frontend, and integration development teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure all solutions adhere to scalability, availability, security, resilience, and performance requirements.
- Review solution designs to verify compliance with enterprise architecture standards and best practices.
- Identify and manage technical risks, dependencies, and architectural constraints proactively.
- Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, product owners, engineering teams, security, infrastructure, and enterprise architecture groups.
- Maintain comprehensive solution architecture diagrams, integration specifications, API standards, and technical documentation for ongoing reference and governance.

Required Qualifications

- Proven experience as a Solution Architect or Technical Architect specializing in digital Commerce and enterprise integration solutions.
- Deep expertise in eCommerce and digital commerce architecture principles and best practices.
- Strong knowledge of Enterprise Service Layer (ESL) architecture and its application in complex environments.
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing REST APIs, microservices, and API management frameworks.
- Solid understanding of synchronous, asynchronous, messaging, and event-driven integration patterns.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate Commerce platforms with enterprise and backend systems effectively.
- Expertise in API security protocols, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, authentication, and authorization mechanisms.
- Comprehensive understanding of scalability, high availability, resilience, caching strategies, and performance tuning.
- Experience defining, governing, and enforcing architecture and integration standards across teams.
- Strong technical leadership skills, with proven ability to manage stakeholders and deliver well-designed solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working with Adobe Commerce/Magento, SAP Commerce Cloud, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, commercetools, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with API management and integration platforms such as Apigee, Azure API Management, Kong, or MuleSoft.
- Knowledge of Kafka or other event-streaming and messaging technologies.
- Development experience with Java/Spring Boot, .NET, or Node.js environments.
- Exposure to cloud platforms including Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Understanding of modern commerce concepts such as Headless Commerce, Composable Commerce, and MACH architecture.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Awareness of CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
- Familiarity with observability tools and application monitoring solutions to ensure system health and performance.
