The role involves managing Trade Payments and various related activities in accordance with the bank’s internal policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) guidelines. The incumbent will be responsible for authorizing transactions within the processing system, covering all aspects of Trade Finance across multiple business segments. This position requires a thorough understanding of trade operations and adherence to compliance standards to ensure smooth and accurate processing.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all processing activities comply with SOPs, Operational Process Manuals (OPMs), and relevant trade finance rules such as UCP, ISBP, and ISP, while ensuring charges are recovered according to current guidelines.
- Conduct sanction checks on relevant parties involved in trade documents to maintain regulatory compliance.
- Manage day-to-day trade operations efficiently, including authorizing and inputting transactions into the processing system.
- Prepare and authorize SWIFT messages related to trade transactions accurately and timely.
- Undertake ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the Team Head to support operational needs.
- Communicate any errors or knowledge gaps to the line manager and team, facilitating continuous improvement in customer service.
- Prevent revenue leakage by ensuring all applicable charges are collected without omission.
- Maintain up-to-date reconciliations, ensuring no outstanding entries remain pending in Nostro or internal accounts.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of 9 to 12 years of relevant experience in Trade Operations within the banking or financial services sector.
- Expert-level knowledge of Letters of Guarantee and Letters of Credit, including their processing and compliance requirements.
- Strong understanding of accounting entries related to trade finance and experience with User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Familiarity with amortization principles as they apply to trade finance transactions.
- Proficient communication skills, with the ability to manage teams and work collaboratively across departments.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical capabilities, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform well under pressure, demonstrating excellent organizational skills and a cooperative team spirit.
