We are seeking a skilled UNIX Systems Engineer to provide comprehensive support and management of UNIX platforms within a large-scale enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with various UNIX and Linux distributions, including Red Hat Linux, IBM AIX, HP UNIX, Oracle Linux, and other flavors. This role involves performing OS upgrades, migrations, and patching, as well as managing virtualization technologies and hardware installations. The candidate will also be responsible for automation through scripting, firmware upgrades, and supporting 24/7 operational activities including incident, change, and problem management. Exposure to cloud virtualization and container technologies is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert support for UNIX platforms across multiple environments, ensuring stability and performance.
- Perform OS upgrades, migrations, and patch management on Red Hat, IBM AIX, HP UNIX, Oracle Linux, and other Linux variants.
- Implement security hardening measures in line with standards such as CIS baselines and vulnerability management protocols.
- Manage virtualization technologies including VMware, Red Hat OpenShift, IBM VIOS, and HP VSP.
- Conduct installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware including IBM Power Systems, Oracle Exadata, HP, Dell, and x86 servers.
- Develop and maintain shell scripts and automation tools to streamline system administration tasks.
- Carry out firmware upgrades on server hardware to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Support hyper-converged and engineered hardware platforms such as Oracle Exadata.
- Provide 24/7 operational support including incident resolution, change management, and problem management.
- Assist with project activities such as server builds, cloud portal management, and application deployments.
- Monitor system health, capacity, and performance to proactively address potential issues.
- Work with containerization technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and related tools.
- Manage Azure Cloud virtualization environments and related infrastructure components.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience supporting UNIX platforms in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Strong proficiency with Red Hat Linux, IBM AIX, HP UNIX, Oracle Linux, and other Linux distributions.
- Hands-on experience with OS upgrades, migrations, and patching processes.
- Knowledge of security hardening standards, vulnerability management, and compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Red Hat OpenShift, IBM VIOS, and HP VSP.
- Experience with hardware installation and configuration for IBM Power, Oracle Exadata, HP, Dell, and x86 servers.
- Skilled in shell scripting and automation to improve operational efficiency.
- Experience performing firmware upgrades on server hardware.
- Ability to support 24/7 operational activities including incident, change, and problem management.
- Exposure to container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience managing cloud virtualization environments, particularly Azure.
