Backend Software Engineer (Python/ Django)

Our client is seeking a skilled Backend Software Engineer with strong expertise in Python and Django to join their engineering team based in Islamabad, Pakistan. This role is highly coding-focused, requiring close collaboration with the technical lead to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services. The ideal candidate is passionate about writing clean, maintainable code and enjoys tackling complex backend challenges in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python and Django frameworks.
- Build scalable RESTful APIs and backend microservices to support various applications.
- Develop secure, multi-tenant applications incorporating robust authentication and authorization mechanisms.
- Integrate AI services, IoT devices, and external platforms seamlessly into backend systems.
- Work with streaming and event-driven architectures to enable real-time data processing.
- Design efficient database schemas and optimize query performance for high throughput.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of distributed systems.
- Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable production code adhering to best practices.
- Participate actively in code reviews and promote engineering standards.
- Collaborate with the technical lead to implement architectural and technical designs.
- Deploy and maintain applications in both cloud and self-hosted environments.

Required Qualifications

- 3 to 6 years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on backend engineering.
- Proficiency in Python programming language.
- Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience with Django framework.
- Solid experience in building RESTful APIs.
- Understanding of asynchronous programming concepts.
- Knowledge of distributed systems and scalable backend service design.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures and streaming/data pipeline technologies.
- Strong background in backend security, including authentication and authorization protocols such as JWT and OAuth.
- Experience implementing API security and following OWASP best practices.
- Expertise in developing secure backend applications.
- Experience with multi-tenant architectures, including tenant isolation, role-based access control (RBAC), and organization/workspace-based systems.
- Proficient with databases such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB; experience with Cassandra is preferred.
- Skills in database optimization and indexing techniques.
- Experience integrating AI/LLM services, machine learning APIs, and IoT platforms.
- Familiarity with MQTT and WebSockets is a plus.
- DevOps skills including Docker, Linux, CI/CD pipelines, and self-hosted deployments.
- Experience working with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools to maintain application health.
