We are seeking a skilled biomedical engineer who excels in technical precision, applied problem-solving, and rigorous engineering reasoning within health and life-science domains. This role offers a unique chance to influence how the next generation of AI systems comprehend and communicate complex biomedical engineering concepts. As a biomedical engineering specialist, you will evaluate, challenge, and refine advanced language models on domain-specific topics. Your expertise will directly contribute to enhancing leading AI models and help shape the future of AI in biomedical applications.
This position is with SME Careers, a rapidly growing AI Data Services company and a subsidiary of SuperAnnotate. The company provides training data for some of the world’s largest AI firms and foundation-model laboratories.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, logical consistency, completeness, and clarity across various biomedical engineering subjects.
- Challenge advanced language models using realistic biomedical engineering scenarios, including calculations and design or analysis reasoning tasks.
- Review and improve AI-generated prompts, model outputs, explanations, and step-by-step solutions, ensuring correct unit handling and interpretation of constraints.
- Provide structured feedback identifying factual inaccuracies, unsafe recommendations, unsupported clinical claims, missing assumptions, invalid simplifications, misuse of standards, or incomplete reasoning.
- Assess model performance on topics such as biomechanics, bioinstrumentation and sensors, biomedical signals, medical device design, biomaterials, imaging and measurement, as well as verification, validation, and risk management.
- Contribute to shaping AI communication standards for biomedical content, focusing on how models explain assumptions, risks, limitations, experimental verification needs, and escalation protocols to clinical or regulatory experts.
- Ensure AI-generated content adheres to responsible biomedical engineering practices, particularly concerning patient safety, clinical claims, and regulatory-sensitive issues.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in biomedical engineering with substantial hands-on involvement in one or more areas such as medical devices, biomechanics, biomaterials, tissue engineering, bioinstrumentation, imaging systems, physiological signals and systems, rehabilitation engineering, clinical engineering, quality/regulatory affairs, manufacturing, or validation.
- Strong foundational knowledge of biomedical engineering principles, including physiology for engineers, transport phenomena in biological systems, biomechanics, material behavior in biological environments, biosignals, sensor and measurement systems, and systems modeling relevant to your specialty.
- Proficiency in handling technical assumptions, constraints, unit consistency, and defensible reasoning, including understanding limitations, uncertainties, and safety considerations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field is required. Advanced degrees such as a Master’s or PhD are highly preferred.
- Experience with AI data training, annotation, red-teaming, or evaluating AI-generated technical content is a significant advantage.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations such as ISO 13485, IEC 60601, ISO 14971, FDA design controls (21 CFR 820), verification and validation processes, risk management, biocompatibility standards (ISO 10993), or clinical workflow constraints is a plus but not mandatory.
This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of biomedical engineering and cutting-edge AI technology, contributing to innovations that impact healthcare and life sciences globally. If you are passionate about advancing AI’s role in biomedical fields and possess the required expertise, this position provides a meaningful platform to apply your skills and influence future developments.
