We are seeking a skilled professional with expertise in ecological statistics and population modeling to design and implement a stratified sampling framework that accounts for detectability. The role involves estimating key ecological metrics such as encounter rate, density, population size, detection probability, and occupancy, all accompanied by confidence intervals. The candidate will also be responsible for modeling population extrapolations to Key Biodiversity Hotspots while incorporating uncertainty measures. Additionally, the position requires validating models using metrics such as AUC, TSS, and cross-validation, as well as assessing the significance of habitat variables. Deliverables include providing reproducible scripts and datasets aligned with project milestones.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement a stratified sampling framework that incorporates detectability factors.
- Estimate ecological parameters including encounter rate, population density, population size, detection probability, and occupancy, ensuring results include confidence intervals.
- Develop models to extrapolate population data to Key Biodiversity Hotspots, incorporating uncertainty quantification.
- Validate models using statistical measures such as Area Under the Curve (AUC), True Skill Statistic (TSS), and cross-validation techniques.
- Analyze and interpret the significance of habitat variables influencing population dynamics.
- Prepare and deliver reproducible analytical scripts and datasets corresponding to project deliverables.
Required Qualifications
- A PhD, MPhil, or MS degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant professional or research experience in ecological statistics and population modeling.
- Proficiency in regression analysis, detection probability modeling, and occupancy or distance sampling methods.
- Experience with statistical extrapolation techniques and uncertainty estimation in ecological contexts.
This position offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge ecological research with a focus on biodiversity conservation. The successful candidate will work on impactful projects involving advanced statistical modeling and data analysis, supporting conservation efforts in critical habitats.
