We are seeking a dedicated Part-Time Chess Instructor to create and deliver engaging chess lessons for school-aged children. The ideal candidate will not only teach the fundamentals of chess but also foster strategic thinking, patience, spatial awareness, and problem-solving skills in a supportive and enjoyable environment. This role involves designing interactive classes that inspire students to develop both their chess abilities and critical life skills.
Key Responsibilities
Interactive Instruction: Deliver lessons covering chess fundamentals, board vision, opening strategies, middlegame tactics, and endgame techniques tailored to different age groups and skill levels.
Curriculum Planning: Develop structured lesson plans spanning 3 to 4 months, incorporating tactical lectures, puzzle-solving activities, and guided casual play to maintain student engagement.
Tournament & Exhibition Management: Organize mini-tournaments, blitz rounds, and simultaneous exhibitions within the academy to create dynamic learning experiences.
Critical Thinking Mentorship: Utilize chess as a tool to teach broader skills such as foresight, emotional control, sportsmanship, and analytical thinking.
Progress Tracking: Monitor each student’s progress, provide constructive feedback, and communicate updates on their development to parents.
Required Qualifications
Chess Expertise: A strong playing background with a thorough understanding of chess theory, tactics, and notation. Experience with FIDE ratings or tournament participation is highly advantageous.
Teaching Experience: At least one year of experience coaching or teaching chess to children, school clubs, or youth academies.
Classroom Management: Demonstrated patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to maintain discipline while fostering a fun and engaging learning environment.
Communication Skills: Ability to explain complex tactical concepts clearly and in a manner that is accessible to young learners.
Work Schedule & Compensation
This position offers flexible hours during afterschool periods and weekends, with batch schedules tailored to the instructor’s availability. Compensation is competitive and session-based or hourly, reflecting the candidate’s coaching experience and credentials. The pay range is Rs1,500 to Rs3,000 per hour.
Work Location
This role requires in-person instruction at the academy.
