Coal Gasifier operator

Atta Chemicals (Pvt.) Limited, a reputable chemical manufacturing company established in 2008, specializes in producing Sulphuric Acid, Formic Acid, Glauber's Salt, and Sodium Sulphate. The company is currently expanding its operations by establishing a Sulphate of Potash (SOP) production facility using the Mannheim process. To support this growth, Atta Chemicals is seeking two experienced Coal Gasifier Operators for its SOP plant located in Multan. The successful candidates will be responsible for the safe, stable, and efficient operation of the coal gasification system that supplies producer gas to the Mannheim furnaces. This role demands hands-on experience in industrial coal gasification, process monitoring, equipment operation, and troubleshooting to ensure a continuous and reliable fuel gas supply essential for SOP production.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor the coal gasifier system throughout assigned production shifts.
- Track gasifier parameters including temperature, pressure, airflow, coal feeding rates, and producer gas quality.
- Ensure a stable and consistent producer gas supply to Mannheim furnaces in line with production demands.
- Manage coal feeding systems, air blowers, gas cleaning equipment, and related machinery effectively.
- Supervise routine removal of ash and clinker while maintaining optimal gasifier operating conditions.
- Detect and report abnormal situations such as unstable gas pressure, poor gas quality, excessive temperatures, clinker buildup, and equipment faults.
- Execute gasifier startup, shutdown, and emergency procedures following approved protocols and supervisor guidance.
- Inspect gas pipelines, valves, seals, and associated equipment for leaks or irregularities.
- Collaborate closely with Mannheim furnace operators and Shift Engineers to maintain uninterrupted fuel gas supply.
- Conduct regular equipment inspections and communicate maintenance needs promptly.
- Maintain accurate records including operating logs, coal consumption data, equipment inspection reports, and shift handover documentation.
- Adhere strictly to safety procedures related to carbon monoxide exposure, combustible gases, fire hazards, and confined space entry.
- Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping standards around the gasifier and associated equipment.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years’ practical experience in industrial coal gasifier operations or similar producer gas generation systems.
- Solid understanding of coal gasification processes including coal feeding, airflow regulation, temperature and pressure control, ash handling, and clinker management.
- Experience operating industrial blowers, pumps, valves, and gas handling equipment.
- Ability to identify operational issues and assist in troubleshooting efforts.
- Knowledge of industrial safety standards, gas leak prevention, carbon monoxide hazards, and emergency response protocols.
- Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) in Mechanical, Chemical, or related technical fields is preferred; however, candidates with substantial practical gasifier operation experience may also be considered without formal qualifications.
- Willingness and ability to work rotating shifts in a continuous-process manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications and Additional Information
Preference will be given to candidates with hands-on experience in:
- Industrial coal gasification and producer gas generation systems supplying fuel to industrial furnaces, kilns, or chemical plants.
- Coal feeding, ash removal, clinker management, and gas cleaning systems.
- Commissioning, startup, shutdown, and troubleshooting of coal gasifiers.
- Working in continuous-process industrial manufacturing settings.
