CABI is seeking an experienced consultant to support the Agriculture Services Academy, Peshawar (ASAP) in integrating gender equality and social inclusion (GEI) into two key diploma courses: Rural Sociology I & II and Agriculture Extension I & II. These courses are critical for training front-line extension staff in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, where women’s contributions to agriculture are often overlooked. The consultant will review course content, learning outcomes, activities, and assessments to embed gender-sensitive approaches, drawing on resources from the CABI Academy’s online platform. The role includes validating revisions through workshops and delivering a training-of-trainers (TOT) program to ensure sustainable adoption of the updated curricula.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct an inception phase involving coordination with CABI, ASAP leadership, and course instructors to finalize work plans, review frameworks, and resource inventories.
- Perform a detailed gender review of the selected courses, analyzing learning materials, examples, and assessments against a GEI checklist, and mapping real gender roles in the local agricultural context.
- Identify gaps and propose practical, evidence-based revisions that integrate gender equality without compromising technical rigor or course length.
- Draft revised course materials, including updated learning outcomes, content, case studies, activities, assessments, and instructor guidance notes aligned with university requirements.
- Facilitate a one-day validation workshop with ASAP stakeholders to review and approve recommended changes.
- Design and deliver a three-day TOT workshop for instructors, management, and examination staff, covering GEI concepts, revised content, inclusive teaching methods, and assessment strategies.
- Administer pre- and post-training evaluations and produce comprehensive reports documenting the review process, workshop outcomes, TOT results, and recommendations for future course integration and monitoring.
- Maintain close communication with CABI project leads, ASAP Principal, instructors, and the CABI Academy team throughout the assignment, providing regular progress updates.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Public Administration, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum 15 years of professional experience in gender mainstreaming and women’s economic empowerment within Pakistan, with proven work in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other provinces.
- Demonstrated expertise in integrating gender into curricula, training modules, or learning materials for government, academic, or development organizations, supported by at least three relevant assignments.
- Strong instructional design skills, including developing learning outcomes, course content, assessments, and trainer guides, alongside experience delivering training-of-trainer programs.
- Proven facilitation skills for conducting validation and consultation workshops involving senior government officials and academic faculty.
- Deep understanding of Pakistan’s agricultural extension system and rural gender dynamics, with fluency in English and Urdu; Pashto language skills are an advantage.
- Ability to collaborate respectfully with technical experts and integrate gender perspectives without diluting subject matter quality.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Formal trainer certification is advantageous.
- Experience working with online learning platforms and adapting digital training resources.
- Opportunity to contribute to a replicable model for gender integration in agricultural education, influencing future cohorts and potentially expanding to other courses such as Livestock Extension.
- Travel expenses for field visits, workshops, and training sessions will be covered separately by CABI.
- The assignment spans approximately 28 working days over three months, concluding by December 2026, with deliverables tied to milestone payments.
This role offers a unique chance to shape gender-responsive agricultural education in a key region of Pakistan, supporting women farmers’ visibility and empowerment through enhanced training of extension professionals.
