Key Responsibilities
The Consultant Ophthalmologist will be based full-time on-site in Karachi, providing specialized clinical care to patients with diverse ophthalmic conditions. This includes conducting thorough eye examinations, diagnosing and managing both medical and surgical eye diseases, and performing surgeries such as cataract extraction and other anterior or posterior segment procedures according to expertise. The role requires supervising and mentoring junior clinicians and optometry staff, ensuring strict adherence to clinical protocols, and actively participating in quality improvement initiatives. The consultant will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, engage in case discussions, maintain accurate and detailed medical records, and support community outreach and educational activities aligned with LRBT’s mission. A strong commitment to ethical, compassionate patient care and efficient service delivery in a high-volume setting is essential.

Candidates must have a solid foundation in clinical medicine with demonstrated expertise in ophthalmology. Advanced skills in optometry, including refraction, low vision assessment, and evaluation of visual function, are required. Proven competence in ophthalmic surgery—particularly cataract and other anterior or posterior segment surgeries—is essential. Experience with laser technologies used in ophthalmic treatments, such as retinal photocoagulation, YAG capsulotomy, and laser iridotomy, is also necessary. Applicants should hold a recognized medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) along with a postgraduate qualification in ophthalmology (e.g., FCPS, FRCS, or equivalent) and possess valid registration with the relevant medical council. Prior experience as a practicing ophthalmologist in high-volume or teaching hospital environments is preferred. Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making abilities, a patient-centered and equitable approach to care, and the capacity to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams are critical. Excellent communication skills in English and local languages, meticulous record-keeping, and strict adherence to clinical protocols are also required.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
While not explicitly detailed, preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching or training roles and those who demonstrate leadership in clinical quality improvement. Joining LRBT offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, mission-driven organization with a significant impact on public health, providing professional growth in a high-volume clinical setting focused on delivering compassionate eye care to underserved communities.
