The Business Development Representative (BDR) is a vital contributor to the company’s sales growth by generating qualified opportunities through identifying and engaging prospective shippers. This role involves connecting with key decision-makers within logistics and transportation sectors to gain a deep understanding of their shipping needs and challenges. The BDR is responsible for building a strong sales pipeline through strategic outbound prospecting, effective qualification, and consistent follow-up. Close collaboration with the sales team ensures that qualified leads are accurately documented and seamlessly handed off for discovery calls.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and research potential customers that align with the company’s ideal customer profile (ICP).
- Engage decision-makers across transportation, logistics, supply chain, procurement, and operations using phone, email, LinkedIn, and other prospecting tools.
- Conduct detailed research on prospects’ freight profiles, including commodities, shipping lanes, modes, volume, current providers, and transportation challenges.
- Qualify prospects by evaluating their shipping needs, pain points, buying process, timing, decision-makers, and overall fit.
- Schedule qualified discovery calls for the sales team, providing comprehensive background and qualification notes before each meeting.
- Maintain consistent follow-up with prospects, professionally address objections, and nurture relationships with companies that are not immediately ready to engage.
- Keep prospect, account, activity, and pipeline data accurate and up to date within the CRM system.
- Confirm and follow up on scheduled meetings to reduce no-shows and reschedule qualified opportunities as necessary.
- Provide thorough handoffs to the sales team, including relevant information about the prospect’s transportation needs and potential opportunities.
- Continuously build and maintain a pipeline of immediate and future sales opportunities through ongoing prospecting and relationship development.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Comfortable making outbound calls and initiating contact with new prospects.
- Self-motivated and competitive, with a strong drive to meet activity and performance goals.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple prospects and follow-ups efficiently.
- Professional and persistent approach to handling objections throughout the sales process.

- Previous experience in sales, business development, customer service, or transportation/logistics is required.
