The Coordinator role at WWF-Pakistan involves strategic planning and implementation of water stewardship initiatives across multiple project sites in Karachi. This position supports the delivery of a project aimed at replenishing 26,600 m³ of water annually through nature-based solutions and collective action with vulnerable communities, government bodies, industries, and academia. The Coordinator will identify intervention opportunities, assist in engineering design and execution, ensure timely project delivery, and achieve replenishment targets aligned with technical and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and assess potential project sites, recommending feasible water stewardship and nature-based interventions based on environmental, hydrological, and water-related needs, including evaluation of water replenishment potential during design stages.
- Conduct comprehensive site assessments and technical feasibility studies covering water availability, groundwater conditions, drainage, flood risks, water quality, existing infrastructure, and other relevant environmental factors.
- Propose, design, and modify water conservation, groundwater recharge, wastewater/greywater management, and nature-based interventions to ensure successful project execution.
- Assess baseline water conditions and replenishment potential, recommending appropriate technologies and designs considering water quality, source characteristics, infrastructure, socioeconomic factors, and applicable standards.
- Develop and review technical designs, specifications, drawings, and BOQs; provide technical input during procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning phases.
- Oversee implementation of approved interventions, ensuring compliance with designs, quality standards, environmental requirements, safety protocols, and timelines.
- Support procurement and mobilization of materials, equipment, and technical services, reviewing technical specifications and verifying quality where applicable.
- Engage with government departments and regulatory authorities to facilitate obtaining necessary NOCs, environmental clearances, technical approvals, and permits.
- Plan and implement community-based training and capacity-building activities focused on water conservation, stewardship, groundwater management, and nature-based solutions according to project schedules.
- Compile, maintain, analyze, and update water replenishment and environmental monitoring data, tracking progress against targets, indicators, milestones, and project outcomes.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation including baseline assessments, hydrological and environmental data, feasibility studies, intervention designs, monitoring and evaluation data, and lessons learned.
- Provide technical and implementation support to other Freshwater Programme projects within the region as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering.
- Minimum 4-5 years of relevant experience in water stewardship, environmental management, or related fields.
- Strong expertise in public speaking, session organization, team management, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in English and Urdu (reading, writing, and speaking).
- Competence in Microsoft Office applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
- Familiarity with community dynamics and socio-cultural contexts of Karachi.
Preferred Qualifications and Additional Skills
- Certification and prior experience with the Alliance for Water Stewardship is an advantage.
- Aptitude for teamwork and ability to maintain productive relationships with corporate partners.
- Excellent report writing skills and demonstrated advocacy capabilities.
- Event management experience and ability to motivate and influence stakeholders.
- Sensitivity to gender and social issues relevant to Pakistan.
