As part of this mission, the Cornea Transplantation Program aims to restore sight for individuals affected by corneal blindness. This initiative promotes cornea donation and facilitates life-changing transplants, helping recipients regain independence and improve their quality of life.
As a Cornea Counselor, you will play a vital role in educating the public about the importance of cornea donation and motivating individuals and groups to participate. This position involves significant fieldwork within hospitals, with a special focus on counseling in emergency and critical care wards. The role is well-suited for someone passionate about public health advocacy and community engagement, working closely with patients and their families during challenging times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Counseling: Provide compassionate, in-depth counseling to potential donors and their families, especially in emergency and critical care wards. Address concerns, answer questions, and offer emotional support, ensuring families understand the significance and impact of their decisions.
- Education and Awareness: Conduct educational sessions within hospitals and at eye screening camps to raise awareness about cornea donation among healthcare staff and the general public.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with healthcare professionals, hospital staff, and partner organizations to support cornea donation campaigns and related events.
- Community Engagement: Actively engage with community groups to promote awareness and encourage participation in cornea donation.
- Media Promotion: Participate in public speaking and media appearances to effectively advocate for cornea donation.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of interactions and prepare detailed reports on outreach and counseling activities. Attend weekly office meetings for updates and reporting.
Required Qualifications:
- Fresh graduate in Public Health, Health Education, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Healthcare Administration, Biomedical Ethics, Health Communication, Anthropology, Community Development, or a related discipline.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide empathetic counseling under sensitive circumstances.
- Willingness to work in hospital settings, particularly in emergency and critical care wards.
- Passion for public health advocacy and community service.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, hospital-based position requiring weekly office visits for meetings and reporting. The role demands a genuine commitment to public health and community engagement. The monthly salary range is Rs35,000 to Rs40,000. The work location is in person.
