The DC Infra Engineer will oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the organization’s Data Center facilities, ensuring continuous uptime and full operational readiness of all critical infrastructure. This role involves managing multiple Huawei Fusion Module (FM2000) data centers equipped with integrated UPS systems and monitored through DCIM NetEco. The engineer will also be responsible for fire suppression, addressable fire alarms, VESDA systems, access control, and CCTV, all operating under strict security and access policies. Beyond routine tasks, the role includes supporting planning, design, and surveys for new data center sites, verifying BOM/BOQ for infrastructure projects, and responding to emergency calls related to data center and IT room infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Responsibility — Functional Data Center Management:
- Execute corrective maintenance promptly when breakdowns occur and plan quarterly preventive maintenance across all data center equipment and systems.
- Perform scheduled inspections on electrical, mechanical, and safety equipment, diagnosing and resolving issues quickly to minimize downtime.
- Continuously monitor power, cooling, and system alerts in real time using Netcool and DCIM NetEco, responding to or escalating abnormal events as necessary.
- Conduct regular functional testing of fire detection and suppression systems, including FSS, addressable fire alarms, and VESDA, to ensure operational readiness.
- Follow a clear incident response process to identify, contain, and resolve problems efficiently, maintaining proper logging and escalation.
- Track and forecast power and cooling capacity to ensure adequate headroom for current loads and future growth.
- Regularly check fire suppression gas levels, cooling refrigerants, sensor calibration, and UPS battery health.
- Perform manual testing of backup power systems such as UPS and generators, including cooling system failover tests to validate resiliency.
- Periodically test electrical grounding and earthing systems to ensure safety for personnel and equipment.
- Maintain organized, properly routed, and clearly labeled power and data cabling throughout all data center racks and containment areas.
Indirect Responsibility — Edge Site IT Rooms:
- Provide secondary oversight of Edge site IT rooms, coordinating maintenance and health checks for UPS systems (10kVA, 15kVA, 20kVA).
- Monitor and support comfort cooling units serving Edge site server rooms.
- Ensure Edge site IT rooms comply with the same safety, power, and cooling standards as main data centers.
- Coordinate with regional and site teams for scheduled maintenance and issue resolution at Edge locations.
Emergency Response:
- Respond promptly to emergency calls involving power outages, cooling failures, fire alarms, or security incidents at both data center and Edge sites.
- Be available for urgent site visits or escalations outside normal working hours during critical incidents, despite the role being primarily day shift.
- Coordinate with facility management, security, and vendor support teams to restore services and minimize downtime during emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, IT, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in data center operations, critical infrastructure maintenance, or a similar environment.
- Strong working knowledge of data center infrastructure, including UPS systems, precision cooling, electrical distribution (PDU/ATS/DB), and standby power generators.
- Hands-on experience with Huawei FusionModule (FM2000) or similar modular data center solutions.
- Familiarity with DCIM platforms such as Huawei NetEco and NMS/event management tools for real-time monitoring and alerting.
- Working knowledge of fire detection and suppression systems, including addressable fire alarm panels, VESDA/aspirating smoke detection, and clean-agent fire suppression systems.
- Understanding of access control and CCTV systems with the ability to enforce access policies for restricted areas.
- Knowledge of electrical safety practices, including grounding and earthing systems and testing procedures.
- Basic understanding of HVAC and comfort cooling principles as applied to server and IT rooms.
- Ability to read and verify technical documentation, BOM/BOQ, single-line diagrams, and site layout drawings.
- Familiarity with structured cabling and cable management best practices.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Prior experience working specifically with Huawei data center infrastructure and associated monitoring tools is considered an advantage.
- Exposure to fire and safety systems management within a critical infrastructure environment is beneficial.
This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, mission-critical environment, supporting cutting-edge data center technologies and infrastructure.
